On Medieval #DistaffDay, when women returned to work after Xmas, here are 2 pre-medieval Athenian vase-paintings of women with a distaff, & a French neoclassical Clotho (Fate) spinning the threads of our fates; cutting the spun thread was a major ancient metaphor for mortality.
