We should reject the term “Balkan.” It is a Turkic-origin word associated with the Ottoman Empire and originally referred to the mountains of Bulgaria.
We are not under the Ottomans. We are not “Balkans.” We are South-East Europeans.

Albanians live everywhere, but the Arbëresh community is the most special Albanian community that Albania has ever produced. To think that they moved to Italy hundreds of years ago and still keep our language and heritage alive is just too 🥹🥹my heart can’t take it.

@BesaBesmira Spak wasn’t ramas initiative in any way. It was part of EU justice reform package. All countries 🇲🇪 🇧🇬 🇭🇷 etc have ‘spak’ . It’s the bare minimum for EU accession. Rama cannot deliver anything in Albania without the EU and he knows it. Raise your standards

@EvaTrifoni It’s Rama that established SPAK, an institution that could go after his own party members.
In other countries that would be considered a political suicide. In fact, other countries in the region were asked by EU to establish a SPAK and do a justice reform. Nobody did.

The protest needs a clear direction and specific goals. Focusing on environmental concerns for an undefined project weakens its credibility.
It should instead focus on issues like gov corruption, 30 years of lack of development, disputed land ownership, and poor infrastructure

If you want to vent, ask for Berisha to be jailed for life. With everything he has done I do not understand how is it possible he is not in jail since long…

Today was the official closure of the vetting of judges and prosecutors in Albania. 9 amazing years I will never forget. Wonderful country and wonderful people. The official lunch with our counterparts was concluded in the Albanian way.....

@evikokalari @saliberisha_ @ediramaal I was always under the impression that Berisha had died in the 90s. I was shocked to find out a couple of years ago that not only was he alive, but he was also the main opposition. Then everything made sense. Chilling.

This guy explains it beautifully why the Albanians are on their 18th day of massive protests:
- When @saliberisha_ entered politics and became President, he was one year old.
- When @ediramaal entered politics, he was in first grade.
- When @saliberisha_ became Prime Minister, he was 14 years old.
- When @ediramaal became Prime Minister, he was 22 years old.
- Today, after 35 years, he is a father of two, a 4-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter, and we still have @ediramaal and @saliberisha_ as the two main political figures, though Albania has plenty of intellectuals and great people who could lead.
- @saliberisha_ and @ediramaal won’t allow anyone new who threatens their power, and they don’t allow new parties either. So the protesters want them both in prison.
The slogan of the protests is, in fact:
