When people ask how to get started in cybersecurity, they often look for tools. In reality, strong security careers are built on foundations — not software. Here’s how I think about these fundamentals and why they matter Let have a deep dive 1️⃣ Foundational Certifications - CompTIA Network+ Security begins with understanding how data moves. If you don’t understand networking (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, segmentation) you’re operating without context. Every attack travels across a network. - Cisco CCNA This goes deeper into how enterprise networks are actually designed. Understanding VLANs, routing protocols, and switching logic helps you understand lateral movement, segmentation, and how attackers pivot inside environments. Architecture awareness improves your defensive thinking. - CompTIA Security+ This introduces the mindset shift from IT to security such as: * Risk management * Threat modeling * Cryptography fundamentals * Governance and compliance It connects technical controls to business impact. Certifications don’t replace experience, but they provide structured learning paths. 2️⃣ Core Technical Skills - Packet Analysis Security events ultimately reduce to traffic patterns and artifacts. The ability to analyze packets allows you to: * Identify command-and-control traffic * Detect data exfiltration * Differentiate normal from anomalous behavior This is a differentiator skill in SOC and detection roles. - Linux Proficiency Most production systems and security tools run on Linux-based environments. You don’t need to be an administrator but you should be comfortable in the terminal, managing processes, logs, and services. - Python Automation increases efficiency and impact. Even basic scripting allows you to: * Parse logs * Enrich alerts * Automate repetitive tasks * Prototype detection logic In modern security teams, automation is no longer optional. - Active Directory In enterprise environments, identity is the primary attack surface. Understanding: * Kerberos * NTLM * Privilege escalation paths * Group Policy misconfigurations …provides immediate practical value in both offensive and defensive roles. 3️⃣ Tools - As Learning Platforms, Not Badges Tools such as Wireshark, Splunk, Nessus, and Nmap are important but only if you understand what they are showing you. Tools should teach: * Visibility * Detection logic * Vulnerability prioritization * Network reconnaissance principles Depth of understanding matters more than tool familiarity. 4️⃣ The Overlooked Advantage: Soft Skills Cybersecurity evolves constantly. Strong professionals cultivate: * Research capability * Documentation literacy * Independent problem-solving * Curiosity Technical skill gets you hired. Analytical thinking sustains your career. 5️⃣ Build Evidence, Not Just Credentials Home labs, CTF write-ups, GitHub projects, and documentation of your learning journey demonstrate applied skill. In interviews, practical understanding stands out far more than theoretical knowledge alone.

If your monthly salary is 250k-300k, you have no business renting a N1m apartment. If 2-3 months of your salary can’t cover your rent, you have no business living there. You should pack out.

What VLC does is called software amplification. Normally, your operating system limits volume to 100% to protect your ears and your speakers. That 100% isn’t the maximum sound the audio file could be pushed to, it’s just a safe ceiling set by the OS. VLC intentionally ignores that limit. When you slide the volume past 100% and up to 200%, VLC applies digital gain to the audio signal itself before it ever reaches your sound card. In simple terms, VLC takes the original sound waves from the video and makes them taller. Taller waves mean louder sound. This is especially useful for badly mixed videos, old recordings, or movies where dialogue is very quiet but explosions are loud. VLC boosts everything so you can actually hear what’s being said. The downside is that once you go past the natural range of the audio, quality starts to suffer. If the amplified signal exceeds what your speakers or headphones can reproduce, the sound clips. That’s when voices start sounding harsh, music loses detail, and you hear crackling. You’re not getting “cleaner” audio, just louder audio at the cost of accuracy.

i still don't understand how VLC media player takes volume to 200%

Here are top 5 cities for Nigerians who want to japa. These cities are quite affordable and filled with opportunities. Not every city abroad gives you a good balance of work, lifestyle, and cost of living. If you’re planning to Japa, here are 5 cities that’d actually make sense for Nigerians in 2026: 1️⃣ Toronto, Canada -Strong job market, especially in tech, finance, and healthcare -Cost of living is high, but salaries are competitive Pro tip: Rent outside downtown for better affordability 2️⃣ Berlin, Germany Tech, engineering, and creative industries are thriving Relatively affordable compared to other major European cities Pro tip: Public transport is your best friend—no need for a car 3️⃣ Melbourne, Australia Excellent healthcare and education system Jobs in healthcare, IT, trades Pro tip: Living outside the city center saves a lot 4️⃣ Lisbon, Portugal Emerging tech and fintech hubs Affordable housing and lifestyle Pro tip: Networking is key—many hires happen through connections, not ads. So who do you know? 5️⃣ Dublin, Ireland Tech giants and finance firms hiring globally English-speaking, making transition easier Pro tip: Check if employers sponsor visas—many do for in-demand skills Don’t move somewhere just because the Instagram pics are nice,.body go tell you and I'll laugh at you If you could move tomorrow, which of these cities fits your plan best?
