The Fighter's Edge
The Fighter's Edge@FightersEdge1·
We are back! In 1993, 2 years after I started the World's Finest Tournament, I created the Fighters Edge concept. It had been my heartbeat from the start to make the Street Fighter competitive scene as vibrant and exciting as it could be. This would be a next step to broadening the game and competitive scene's scope. One day at the shop I shared the idea with Tomo. Immediately his eyes lit up and he said "Let's call it the Street Fighters Edge!". I responded "The Fighters Edge!". In less than a minute the Column was born. That moment felt magical. A week or so later I reached out to a Gamepro Magazine Editor and shared with him the 'Fighters Edge' concept, pitching it as a regular monthly column. I explained it's Mission would be to promote the Street Fighter game and competitive scene by covering Tournaments, the players and assisting people all over the world gain a sense of mastery over their craft. It would be a place where fans of Fighters could gather every 30 days to glimpse into the very best of what the Fighting world was offering. It would be a Sanctum for fans of the genre from all over the world to unite and become a part of something much bigger than themselves. He loved the idea and asked for a formal proposal. The Fighters Edge proposal was typed out at the shop on a Friday and sent off to the Editor for formal review with his bosses which included the Editor in Chief of the Magazine. We crossed our fingers and waited for several weeks. Finally I got the call. Yes, our proposal had been accepted! I called Tomo to give him the good news! We 'celebrated' for a minute, and soon after began to work on what would be our first Article. The Fighters Edge column was initially published in the February 1994 issue of Gamepro Magazine. Attached below is a copy of our first article. That same 'Spirit and Vision' of the oG Fighters Edge now continues into 2025. Today I am sharing that continuing Journey with you. You all are invited to follow and join with us as we begin to take our first steps into the future. You all have a personal invitation from Tomo and myself to become a very key part of our Mission. This is just the beginning. There is much more to come. Let's go!

That's a great question Zane. Thank you for asking. 👍 Briefly, my life took an abrupt and unexpected detour last Summer where for several months I was unable to engage on @FightersEdge1. Things settled though 2025 and at the beginning of 2026 behind the scenes I began preparing to 'get back at it'. 🥊 I'll explain more about this soon on @FightersEdge1. Thank you all for your patience and continued support. 🥊 God is good! ✝️🙌 Proverbs 16:3 Congratulation on marriage and Fatherhood Zane! 😊

For those who were wanting to read the BAMA article I wrote for 'The Fighter's Edge' April 1994, here it is. BAMA was the defacto National Championship that Season. 200+ players total. A dozen or so players from SoCal made the trip & oG SoCal took home 4 of the top 5 places. 🥊 #StreetFighter2 #SF2 #FGC #TomoOhira @FightersEdge1

As Mikey mentions here, "NorCal Legends" played in the Novice division at the 1993 #SSF2 BAMA Natty in San Jose. oG SoCal PWN'd NorCal during the 'World's Finest Golden Era'. It was never close between the two Cali Regions. Ever.🥊 #StreetFighter2 #FGC #SSF2 #SF2
Super Arcade !!!@SuperDojo

Just so the people know... SoCal was ALWAYS tops in the Golden Era. And here's some proof. Look at who entered the "Intermediate," aka the kiddie bracket 🤣 and who got tops in the "Elite" bracket. Here's a 1st hand story for you non-believers. Love you NorCal 😘

@oGchaZZZySoCal @FightersEdge1 The sheer scale of these tournaments at that time is insane to think about. It's hard to get that these days even with how easy it is to communicate with people. World's Finest was literally the hub for the greatest SF2 players.

World's Finest always used long sets as well as double elimination. That was also shared during last year's re-telling of the first World's Finest Tournaments on @FightersEdge1.🥊 The first Tournament had 25-30 players, though by Season One's end we were averaging about 100.🥊

I'm the creator of the video, and as @oGchaZZZySoCal said, we have spoken. A lot of what was in the video were excerpts from what has been posted on @FightersEdge1. Although a few key details such as the size of the tournaments and ft3 and later ft4 sets were things I gathered from our direct conversations. I kept a lot of the information general as to not step on any toes if they want to do a long form documentary themselves in the future. As for the AI thing. It's kinda a hot button topic right now. Some are completely against it, and others see it as a tool. I try not to overdo it, but with a subject like this where there's not much video evidence I used it to kinda fill in some visual gaps. Curious to know your take on things and how I should improve.

The Super Street Fighter 2 BAMA Tournament took place on Saturday December 18th 1993 at the San Jose Convention Center. 🥊 I covered it in 'The Fighter's Edge' for the April 1994 edition of Gamepro Magazine. Over 200 players with about a dozen making the trip from SoCal. 🥊

The first #Streetfighter2 World's Finest Tournament was held in late April of 1991. 🕹️ Here's a short video telling a bit of the early story of World's Finest, oG So-Cal. and of course, Tomo Ohira the first Great American Street Fighter 2 Champion. 🥊 #SF2 #StreetFighter #FGC

Daigo has never lost in an “official” first to 10 where both players specifically had a set amount of time to prepare for each other. Infiltration Xian Tokido I feel like I’m forgetting one but yea in FT10’s he definitely earned that reputation. It was busass too very convincing wins (no offense to those players). He might have lost in Godsgarden or TOPANGA which I believe were first to 7’s to a few strong players. That said, I think Mena will beat him 10-5. SF6 is very different to those games of the past and Mena is better at it.

Grok-4.20-Beta 1 just ranked #1 in Medicine & Healthcare on Arena (with style control) The multi-agent version scored #3 xAI literally has two models in the top 3 for medical AI....dominating the leaderboard And this is not just about rankings. Grok has actually helped people through serious, life-or-death medical situations in the real world Medicine is one of the hardest AI categories to shine in because it requires the utmost precision, and Grok just crushed it Grok is designed to actually help humanity... and this proves it

On the day 1st April 1978, Space Invaders was released in Japan. 👾 Taito changed gaming forever, allegedly causing a 100 yen coin shortage! Without this, "Since Spacies" wouldn't exist. 🪙 What’s your first memory of it? 👇

Micron shares are in free fall this week. - Be Micron. - Get excited about Sam Altman singing letters “intending” to buy 40% of DRAM. - Close your entire Crucial consumer memory division so you can sell gamer RAM to OpenAI. - Sam Altman loses investors, never buys the RAM he signed letters for. - Google announces breakthrough saving AI 6x the RAM. - Micron now stuck with all this RAM and no way more division to sell to consumers.

This is insane Google’s TurboQuant just showed AI might not need insane memory after all 👀 Google’s TurboQuant is an extreme compression method that shrinks neural networks using 1–2 bit quantization instead of standard 16–32 bit precision, achieving around 10×–20× reduction in memory usage while maintaining competitive accuracy on large transformer models. Instead of storing full weights, it uses learned scaling and reconstruction to recover information during computation. “The announcement wiped out tens of billions in memory stock value within hours.” This flips a core assumption in AI infrastructure. It shows efficiency and compression, not just scale, can drive performance. It could cut memory bandwidth needs, lower costs and enable powerful models to run on far smaller hardware, while quietly threatening the demand for high end AI memory systems. Efficiency is the new scaling law
