@mdashack @adaige Personally, I believe that middle school kids should be spending time at home with family and friends. We have seen such an increase in anxiety in our pre-teens and teens. Life is not all about school. Let them be kids!

@ForemansRoom @adaige Cindy, I really like this. Especially time to complete work in class. Even for students with ideal circumstances at home, should time at home be reserved for that?

Q4: What supports could be created to counteract circumstances that make the learning playing field uneven, ie: home life, etc? #DSGrading

@mdashack A3: Meaningful grades aren’t objective, based on learning targets and are returned to Ss in a timely manner. #DSGrading

Q3: Are grades meaningful feedback? What do you do to provide clear feedback that reflects if they met the learning intentions? #DSGrading

@adaige Before! I want kids to feel accomplished after the assessment. I have a variety of extension assignments for students who do not need to the reteach time to move forward with.

@ForemansRoom Do you build in reteach days into your scope and sequence either before and/or after assessment? #DSgrading

Q2: How might/does your department respond to students who clearly are not ready for a major assessment? #DSGrading #IamDSISD

@mdashack I really liked the author's suggestion about organizing the summative into topical sections for the purpose of tracking S learning.

@ForemansRoom How can we help them ID what they did not master and need to work on?

A1: Before "closing the gap" with a retest, a S should be id what they did not master and prepare for the retest. #DSGrading

A6: Regardless of our viewpoints, I think we all are driven by the same goal. Student success. #dsgrading

Q5: I agree with the author of the book that Ss will only complete homework if they are intrinsically motivated. #dsgrading

@ecolungasegura @ForemansRoom Yes! They can go to any 6th grade teacher with a pass. It is a great system! #dsgrading

@ForemansRoom @ecolungasegura Do you find it successful for students in regards to making up work etc? #dsgrading

@ecolungasegura DSMS has a built in advisory period. Two days a week are dedicated study hall periods. #dsgrading
