Join us at The Meadows in Meadowell on Thursday the 27th of February for FREE bike marking! We will tag and enter your bike into an online database which can be accessed by Police, meaning you could have your bike returned sooner if it was ever stolen 🚲 Running from 10am-2pm!

Scary moment yesterday. If you drive (especially near schools) and are unaware of the 2022 changes to the highway code, please look them up. These children have right of way as they are crossing at a junction. On this occasion they were not given it. Thankfully everyone is ok.

@craigaynsley Go Smarter is a behaviour change programme run by the sustainable transport team. The officers do not have responsibility for enforcement. We work with schools on promoting active travel to school, including Backworth Park Primary School. You will receive a response to the email.

@GoSmarterNT Never seen any Enforcement Officers for months? Could you let me know when the next time they will be attending? I also sent you an email but had no response?

School Keep Clear zig zags are there to keep children safe. For the few people that still stop on them during the times shown on the signs - please don't. Children's safety is more important than your convenience. Better still - let's just keep cars away from schools altogether!

@craigaynsley Hello Craig. Our Civil Enforcement Officers enforce at all our schools but, unfortunately, they have limited resources and there are 79 schools in the borough. They do have a rota that includes all of them that have restrictions.

@alisonstenning But where are the entitled drivers going? There are stone bollards at the bottom of the ramp. Therefore, is there any need to spend money putting these new ones in place? More money wated by @NTCouncilTeam

Please travel actively on the school run if you possibly can. If you can't, please park as far away as possible from the school gates. This is one of several issues caused by traffic at the school gate.
