It almost definitely has to be considering
A. The concept of Caine messing with the player’s minds to the point of abstraction is never fully addressed
B. It makes no sense for Caine to overreact to Scratch’s name considering he’s not relevant to the main story whatever

Not great. It really was "therapy session" the movie. The Amazing Digital Circus Final Act is a string of emotional scenes that we've seen time and again. The cast accomplishes nothing. Did they save Jax? Nope. Did they work to bring back Cain? Nope. He's just back. A resounding meh.

Caine throughout the show had so many ominous lines that were clearly building to something deeper and bigger going on with him and the fact that it meant nothing and went nowhere in the end also pisses me off and makes me think Goose really did edit the scripts/change stuff.
