Sometimes, I fantasize about living in a simpler time. A time before iPhones and 24/7 news cycles.
Tonight, I watched two little boys with flashlights, looking for bugs in the dark.
That’s when it hit me: They are living the dream I thought was gone — all because we intentionally created it for them.
And when I put my phone away and stop thinking about all the things that are going wrong or what *could* happen, I get to live there too for a little bit.
Perception *is* reality. It’s so easy to forget this. I am as guilty as anyone when it comes to allowing my social media feed to shape my perception of the world — and even my reality.
But man, my reality is so good. Simple.
The kids hopping in the truck in the morning. Eating breakfast tacos in the tailgate. Playing basketball in the driveway. Praying and eating dinner as a family. Looking for bugs outside in the dark. Reading books and snuggling until the kids fall asleep.
This was literally my day TODAY. How could I ever want to live in any other time?! It does not get more simple or meaningful than this.
I am so grateful, Lord for all you have given me and for all the things You continue to reveal to me.
If you want to live in a simpler time, I have good news: you get to create the time you live in. Get dreaming and make it so 🙏

Let me tell you something.
When somebody says, “I prayed for you,” that ain’t just words. That’s action. That means when you weren’t in the room, when you couldn’t defend yourself, when you didn’t even know what to ask for… somebody went to God on your behalf.
See, anybody can say “I got you.”
Anybody can say “I’m thinking about you.”
But prayer? That’s love that shows up quietly.
That’s love that covers you when life is heavy.
That’s love that asks God to step in where they can’t.
And sometimes you don’t even feel it in the moment.
You just notice later… something didn’t break you the way it should’ve.
Something worked out when it didn’t make sense.
Something protected you when you didn’t see it coming.
That’s prayer.
So if someone ever tells you, “I prayed for you,”
understand this —
they loved you enough to take your name into a sacred space.
And that…
that’s a real love language.

In "A Charlie Brown Christmas," Charlie Brown says…
"I think there must be something wrong with me, Linus. Christmas is coming, but I'm not happy. I don't feel the way I'm supposed to feel."
Later, Linus quotes Luke 2:8-14 from the King James Bible and it is so powerful and beautiful…
"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men."
And then he drops this powerful truth…
"That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown."
When Linus starts telling Charlie Brown what Christmas is all about from Luke 2, he is holding his blanket. When he says the words "fear not" he tosses his blanket aside and finishes quoting Scripture. Linus shows that true security can be found in Christ.
The powerful and iconic scene was not liked by the network for being too religious. They wanted to remove it, but Charles Schulz held firm to his insistence that the scene remain because it was essential to what the true meaning of Christmas is all about.
I am thankful for Schulz's insistence. I couldn't even imagine not having this powerful scene.
Merry Christmas & Fear Not

3 AM.
Phone in hand.
Bathroom door locked.
I’ve been fighting this war for 17 years.
Installed the blockers. Got the accountability partner. Memorized the verses.
Still fell.
Here’s what nobody told me:
Lust isn’t your problem. It’s your painkiller.
You’re not addicted to the screen.
You’re addicted to the escape.
From the job you hate.
From the mission you never built.
From the man you were supposed to become.
Every man I’ve met who “can’t quit” has the same disease:
He’s built nothing worth protecting.
When David was on his roof, he wasn’t at war.
The army was in the field. He stayed home.
Idle hands. Empty mission. Wandering eyes.
Bathsheba wasn’t the problem.
The problem was a king with nothing left to conquer.
You want to kill lust?
Stop managing your sin.
Start building your kingdom.

In Kansas City this morning and I walked to the church we attended when we lived here in 1990. I was listening to the @GFCFlorida service and the message was on “Waiting”. It was so powerful-I thought of so many blessings I’ve received in the 2nd half of my life.
Pastor Daryl pointed out that waiting on the Lord is not just “chilling” but it’s trusting and waiting on God’s promises with expectations rather than frustration. It’s not always easy to do but that is how our faith gets developed.
It was a great hour for me to look back and see just how faithful God is—if we remain faithful🙏🏽
“but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:31 KJV
