@GuerrillaSam

It's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled.

@mexigreekmom74 Maybe so. I have no proof of his personal evolution. Nor of his racism being removed. So, I as an individual, disengage. His relationship with God is his own.

MAGA has an Andrew Tate problem and it’s a big fuckin problem. Y’all better wake the fuck up and see what he’s doing before he ruins everything we’ve worked for. Stop acting like a dog who finally caught the car. We still have work to do and you’re fuckin up. @bennyjohnson @AlinaHabba

@gonefishin1948 @Calvy_Pressup “Stop play dumb” is very different than calling you dumb. It’s actually inferring that you are smarter than you let on, which upon reassessment, may be incorrect. I didn’t make an argument - I simply pointed out your lack of answering the question.

@gonefishin1948 @Calvy_Pressup “Prior” Stop playing dumb, you are a priest, grow up and engage in the actual topic rather than getting sidetracked via semantics. Clearly he was referring to pre determination. FWIW, I agree with the Catholic view on this but you look bad sidetracking on semantics.

@Dru_Johnson Ugh, you all are so tiresome. There is a lot in the Bible that two sane people could interpret differently. So many on here are stating their side as “fact” and Wes as “wrong”.

9/x To be clear, Jesus did not think tithing mint, dill, and cumin was STUPID, as Wes paraphrases. Quite the opposite. He wanted them to use that same Torah-living impulse with the "weightier matters" of the Torah.

1/x 🧵Good for Wes Huff being on Rogan. So, I started looking at some of his other stuff. There's a lot of good energy/content there. Questionable interps too. For example, his interp of Pharisee tithing is a PROBLEM—a path to antisemitic tropes. . . . youtu.be/N4t8uw1KRU4?si…

@jasonstaples @self_joseph @WesleyLHuff Great discourse, thank you for clarification on 1. May I perhaps suggest that engaging with ideas in an adversarial matter - with Wes, at this particular time, is probably not the best idea in terms of advancing the gospels - which I assume is the reason you chose to study NT!

@GuerrillaSam @self_joseph @WesleyLHuff (1) Because I’m a biblical scholar, and a large number of non-Catholic biblical scholars are members of CBA, which allows access to certain resources, etc. (2) Adversarial, sure. But about ideas, not a person. Welcome to scholarship. (3) Thanks for that. Truly.

Yikes. This is wrong on both what it says about the Greek and what it says about the Latin. And both terms basically function as renderings of the Hebrew word שוב in its prophetic sense, which means “return,” an idea that involves both heart and action.
Indiana Brunner@IndianaBrunner

Wesley Huff explains to Joe Rogan why figures like Wycliffe, Tyndale, and Luther went to such great lengths to preserve the truth of Scripture and call for reform within the Catholic Church. The Greek "Metanoia" literally means a change of mind or heart, a transformation of one's inner being. It conveys repentance as an internal, spiritual turning away from sin and turning toward God in faith. The Latin word "Poenitentia" was rendered as "penance" in the sense of outward acts of contrition, confession, and works prescribed by the Church. This translation shifted the focus from an internal change of heart to external rituals and actions. For over 1,000 years, the Roman Catholic Church built false doctrines on a mistranslation. As Greek faded, the Church relied on the Latin Vulgate, unknowingly drifting from the truth. Withholding access to the original Scriptures and exploiting illiteracy, the Church created a system with little accountability. This prideful gatekeeping allowed errors to persist unchecked, despite Scripture's call for leader accountability. Only when Scripture became widely accessible during the Reformation were these doctrines refuted.

@jasonstaples @self_joseph @WesleyLHuff 1. Then why are you a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America? 2. “Yikes. This is wrong”, how you stared your post, is not engaging with ideas. It is clearly adversarial. 3. Thank you for being a NT scholar. What a tremendous calling, sincerely.

@GuerrillaSam @self_joseph @WesleyLHuff (1) I’m not a Roman Catholic, so I’m no Catholic apologist; I’m more interested in precision and accuracy. (2) I’m not attempting to undermine anyone. I’m engaging with ideas, not a person. The ideas are what matter here. (3) I’m a NT scholar. That’s my work.

@jasonstaples @self_joseph @WesleyLHuff I’ll assume you are being truthful but you should consider your words in greater context. You are seemingly trying to undermine someone who presented a very good telling of the gospels on the most influential podcast. It seems to come from a place of Catholic apologism too.

@jasonstaples @WesleyLHuff You are missing the forest through the trees. There were clear abuses from the Catholic Church during that time, primarily involving this subject matter. You seem to be more of a Catholic apologist rather than a Christian apologist.

@WesleyLHuff No doubt that there were abuses by Luther’s day that many in the church (including both Erasmus and Luther) recognized. But (1) it is not accurate to suggest that μετανοέω refers to “changing one’s mind” and “doesn’t mean to actually do things.” And …

JFC so much wrong with this demagoguery. If you abolish the H-1B program, employers aren’t going to start hiring Americans in droves. The jobs themselves will shift to Europe/Canada/India or some other place with a good tech ecosystem and plenty of easily hireable talent.

Elon Musk is wrong. The main function of the H-1B visa program is not to hire “the best and the brightest,” but rather to replace good-paying American jobs with low-wage indentured servants from abroad. The cheaper the labor they hire, the more money the billionaires make.
