It is a uniquely American phenomenon to believe that leaving your parents house at 18 and paying rent to some Wallstreet private equity entity is somehow the measure of success in life. In most other societies you will find 2-3 generations in one house in a small clustered housing complex of several houses, supporting each other and helping with the rearing of children.
