Few weeks ago, I suggested that the Nigerian Education Sector has made progress since the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (@officialABAT)’s led administration. Many who have followed the Education Sector keenly over the last decade like me agreed, however, a minority group of individuals queried this and suggested that nothing meaningful has been done. Well, facts are stubborn. The Federal Ministry of Education (@NigEducation) under the leadership of Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa (@DrTunjiAlausa), Honourable Minister of Education and Professor Suwaiba Said Ahmad (@Suwaiba_Said), Minister of State for Education, have introduced the following reforms and programmes for the benefits of Nigerians: 1. Deal signed with ASUU resulting in stability of the academic calendar 2. NELFUND (@NELFUND) student loan for indigent students (1,315,086 beneficiaries so far) 3. Introduction of free Technical Education in Nigeria 4. Revamped TVET Initiative (tuition-free training and start-up support) 5. Introduction of the BRIDGE Initiative (Global Knowledge Transfer Partnership) 6. Curriculum refresh for Basic Education 7. TETFund Higher Education Book Development Intervention  8. 45 student ventures awarded ₦2.2 billion grant via the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) I might have missed some! Below, I highlight some of the policy gaps and what we need to focus on until the end of the second term of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2031: 1. Addressing infrastructural deficits across Higher Institutions 2. Significantly reducing the high numbers of out‑of‑school children. THIS REMAINS A TIME BOMB. MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO BE ADDRESS IT! 3. Provision of internet and digital products to reduce divide between urban and rural schools 4. Curriculum refresh for Higher Education 5. Deepen policy to address insecurity which continues to disrupt schools Overall, we have made PROGRESS!
