The Blood Trail of Abacha’s Dictatorship 1/ Between 1993 and 1998, General Sani Abacha ruled Nigeria with fear. His regime didn’t just loot billions — it silenced critics with bullets, poison, and prison walls. Here’s a list of people who paid the ultimate price, and the agents who carried out the killings. 2/ Kudirat Abiola – June 4, 1996 Wife of M.K.O. Abiola. Shot dead in Lagos while campaigning for her husband’s release. Her killers included Sergeant Barnabas Jabila (aka Sergeant Rogers), acting under orders from Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Abacha’s Chief Security Officer. 3/ Alfred Rewane – October 6, 1995 Businessman and financier of NADECO. Assassinated at his home in Lagos. His support for democracy made him a prime target. Killers linked to Abacha’s Strike Force. 4/ Shehu Musa Yar’Adua – December 8, 1997 Former Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters. Died mysteriously in Abakaliki prison after being jailed for alleged coup plotting. Poison suspected. His death was widely believed to be orchestrated by Abacha’s inner circle. 5/ Suliat Adedeji – November 14, 1996 Ibadan-based politician and philanthropist. Murdered in her home. Her killing was politically motivated, tied to Abacha’s campaign of silencing opposition voices. 6/ Bagauda Kaltho – 1996 Journalist with The News magazine. Disappeared after investigating regime corruption. Later found dead in Kaduna under mysterious circumstances. His death was linked to Abacha’s security operatives. 7/ Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni Nine – November 10, 1995 Environmental and human rights activists. Executed after a sham trial for protesting Shell’s oil pollution in Ogoniland. Abacha’s regime ignored global outrage and carried out the executions. 8/ M.K.O. Abiola – July 7, 1998 Winner of the annulled June 12 election. Died suddenly in custody shortly after Abacha’s own death. Officially declared “natural causes,” but many suspect foul play. 9/ The Strike Force – Abacha’s death squad Led by Major Hamza Al-Mustapha. Operatives included Sergeant Rogers (Barnabas Jabila), Mohammed Abacha (his son, implicated in funding operations), and other loyalists. They carried out assassinations, intimidation, and bombings against pro-democracy activists. 10/ Aftermath Some agents confessed after Abacha’s death. Sergeant Rogers admitted to killing Kudirat Abiola under Al-Mustapha’s orders. Yet few convictions were secured, and many cases remain unresolved. 11/ Bottom line Anyone who glorifies Abacha glorifies murder, corruption, and fear. These names aren’t just history — they’re warnings. Freedom was bought with blood.

I've been trying to stay away from politics Twitter, at least for 2 weeks but all these takes are beginning to annoy me. How is this even argument? Bola? Tinubu is 10 times worse than Abacha, 100 times worse than Buhari - and those two are absolute demons.

Rinu. We hear you, we see you The president knows everything is not where we want it to be and He Mr president is doing everything in his power to ensure that Nigeria gets to where it needs to be and The president will need to do everything in his power to give this country to young people like you and I to continue good work he has started. I believe in the next 4 years we will reap the good of the first 4 years ending in a few months from now.❤️🙏

Strategy and what again? I actually think there is a tone deafness among people who work boldly with this government in public. It’s like you don’t understand the anger. Do we all think we are exempt from the incompetence of this government?
