@Jawmuncher Is there a way to negotiate music rights from the start such that re-releases don’t need a separate licensing negotiation? I know even huge titles like the gta rereleases were missing music so it’s not just an issue limited to small time creators

One of the reasons we’re NEVER going to see Ripper re-released.
Aside from the star-studded cast, “Don’t Fear the Reaper” was an integral part of both the games opening and final puzzle.
So re-licensing the track at current rates would be infeasible.

We licensed Don't Fear the Reaper to use in Prey for $10k back in 2006. Nowadays that same song would cost $150k. We tried to license songs for recent games in the past 2-4 years and the prices are insane now, so we had to pass. These music license companies seem to think all game studios have Hollywood film sized budgets.
