I've known Aum (@aumup001) for nearly 7 years and hired him for my first company when he was a freshman at Columbia. It was evident within 60 seconds that he’s brilliant.
One things I’ll never forget about his interview was the way he systematically dissected why we chose certain interview questions. He even thought commented that our sparsely decorated dorm looked like a therapist’s office when I asked the question, “do you have an ego?”
His way of thinking is perfectly suited to security. Now, he and Eduardo (@EduardoVel36291) are building Silmaril, an always-on red team for agentic systems.
I’m proud @sidedoor_vc was Silmaril’s first investor, and utterly unsurprised that @ycombinator invited them to join this batch. Excited to see them build!

This is really cool. Imagine being able to lucid dream every night, and then in your controlled dreams, you browse twitter, read the news etc, so every morning when you wake up, you're totally informed and caught up.

I grew up 1 mile from Terry’s statue in Victoria, BC. I think about it almost every day.
Terry exemplified everything that is great about Canadians: pushing into the unknown, discipline, endurance, and consistency. His lineage is Radisson, Simpson, MacKenzie. His DNA is Canadian.
They’re part of Canada’s foundation, but they need to be actively maintained.
We don’t need to reinvent ourselves. We need to return to form.
