SCOOP: The FBI informant convicted of lying to the Bureau about a fake bribery scheme involving the Bidens has been quietly released from prison just months into a six-year sentence—raising concern he could be pardoned by Donald Trump any moment. Alexander Smirnov, who has multiple business ties to Trumpworld, was sentenced days before Trump became president. He had pleaded guilty to fabricating a story that former President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, had received millions in bribes from Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, as well as to a $2 million-plus tax evasion offense. Yet despite Smirnov being judged a flight risk, with ties to Russian intelligence and foreign assets, the U.S.-Israeli citizen has been mysteriously missing from prison for at least the past four months.

Wow. The Trump administration is compiling a list of non-profit orgs to investigate as part of an effort to try to uncover who is “funding” Antifa. These orgs could face domestic terrorism charges if the administration decides they have ties to antifascism.

@alexbronzini gee can't figure out why this happened, certainly can't partly be because opportunists of all stripes in media and politics have given in to audience demand for Epstein conspiracies that don't exist

Is that an AI voice repeating the words? Mills hits Platner for his comments about women and sexual assault while showing his tattoo.
Janet Mills@JanetMillsforME

.@grahamformaine blamed women for sexual assault, saying they should "take some responsibility for themselves" and "act like an adult." Here's what Maine women had to say about his words.

@capinsurrep ?? I don’t think we have evidence he did that. I think the website was sending automated random matches

Funny the random things you find when you are looking for other things in the Epstein emails. Apparently he had a Match dot com dating profile, and in 2012 the company sent him six automatically selected recommended profiles of women 51 to 56 years old. Doesn't look like Epstein was too active on it, with the website urging him to fill out more info to get "mutual matches."

@dilanesper @asymmetricinfo Yeah the way this story came out was somewhat overwrought and silly but the idea that it’s not a problem women have to deal with sexual advances from men in power over them in professional and academic settings is going too far and is simply not helpful or true

@asymmetricinfo 2 things can be true: 1. Plenty of healthy relationships start this way, including your parents'. 2. A liberal permissiveness about these sorts of relationships can lead to very significant problems of favoritism, inequality, and coercion in academia.

If this standard had applied in 1966 I would not exist. My Dad was my mom’s TA. I actually asked her if she’d felt like there was a power imbalance the year before he died. Her answer: “No, I thought he was an idiot “. (Dad was not an idiot but their first interaction was a fight over Western NY GOP politics)

I really thought we were done with this kind of thing. They’re only 6 years apart in age, they dated after she was his student, the most they did was kiss. She had agency, because women are not infants. The idea that this should torpedo his career 20 years later is preposterous.

SCOOP: DOJ has waived policy requiring newly hired prosecutors to have least a year (more often 3 years) experience practicing law. As DOJ struggles to replace mass departures w/ qualified applicants, this move allows hiring straight out of law school. news.bloomberglaw.com/us-law-week/do…

Update from David Corn on the DOJ continuing to file in support of Alexander Smirnov’s appeal. I reported in November he had been quietly furloughed even tho judge said he was a flight risk.

SCOOP. From my OUR LAND newsletter: Trump's DOJ is helping to get a convicted FBI informant tied to Russian intelligence out of prison. The lie he told the FBI—Biden took a $5m bribe from Burisma—was the main evidence for the GOP impeachment drive. 1/2 link.motherjones.com/public/44694709

A key figure is "Juan O. Savin," a QAnon influencer who is the subject of a conspiracy theory that he is actually JFK Jr. living under an assumed identity. Savin has said he convened a coalition of "experts" to draft the proposed EO. lawfaremedia.org/article/in-cas…
