I will give one more example : Go to two saree shops, one owned by a Maharashtrian and another by a Marwari.
The Marwari salesman will pull out a 100 sarees and show them with enthusiasm. He doesn't worry about having to fold them all back, even if you don't buy anything. In fact if you say you didn't like any, he will say, no worries, I have more. Finally you land up buying one for the sheer effort he has taken (most of the time)
But our Maharashtrian bhau will show you 5-6 sarees and then grudgingly start showing more. This leads to customer dissonance instantly.
It is the attitude again. We need to look inwards and learn to compete.

I am a proud "Maharashtrian" but here's the reality @patilverse : A Marathi lad owns a shop space, he will not start a business but give it on rent to a business community person and be content with the rent, because he uses his time to NVA activities (play carrom, hangout at chai tapri etc) or perhaps he has a job & is risk averse (which is fine) A few years later when the business is successful and the business owner becomes a millionaire, the Marathi lad is exactly where he was when he rented the place BUT WAIT - his attitude has grown exponentially and he boasts that "his shop space made the other guy a millionaire" (phukyachi mijaas) Sorry if it was harsh but this applies to many. That said and done we do have several successful and enterprising Marathi businessmen and entrepreneurs like Chitale, Kirloskar etc
