#FilmsofMyLife Year: 1991 My Age: 21 years old Favourite Film from 1991: The Silence of the Lambs "Jodie Foster stars as Clarice Starling, a top student at the FBI's training academy. Jack Crawford (Scott Glenn) wants Clarice to interview Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins), a brilliant psychiatrist who is also a violent psychopath, serving life behind bars for various acts of murder and cannibalism. Crawford believes that Lecter may have insight into a case and that Starling, as an attractive young woman, may be just the bait to draw him out." At the 64th Academy Awards, it became the third and most recent film to win the "Big Five" categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It remains the only horror film to have won Best Picture.

🎶Say no more, mon amour🎶 Today is #RexManningDay. And Rex would absolutely: ❌merge without signaling ❌block the box ❌text while driving ❌drink and drive ❌speed in work zones. Don't be like Rex. Drive like you respect the opening act.

During the first airing of my Star Trek series where a kiss was objectionable; many southern stations pulled the episode & condemned the show. Using today’s vernacular it would absolutely be called“woke DEI crap”because it went against “norms” of society for its time. Not a lot seems to have changed.🤷🏼😑

The first Girl Scouts troop was founded #OTD in 1912 in Georgia. 🍪 By the 1920s, the group was already known for its cookies, as evidenced by these images from the Library’s Prints and Photographs Division and historic newspaper archive, of First Lady Grace Coolidge sampling them at the White House.

Nine Inch Nails' released their debut album "Pretty Hate Machine" through TVT Records on October 20, 1989. Front man Trent Reznor sang and performed most of the instruments, also producing the album alongside Keith LeBlanc, John Fryer and Flood, with a few other contributors. With little initial attention, "Pretty Hate Machine" slowly grew into a cult classic through word of mouth, eventually earning recognition as a landmark album. Trent Reznor recorded much of the project while working at a Cleveland studio, blending his synth-pop background with the harsher textures of Nine Inch Nails. Driven largely by synth riffs and pounding drum machines, with guitars used mainly for atmosphere, the album stood apart from traditional industrial music by pairing bleak electronics with strong melodies and clear verse-chorus structures. Although it was later successful, "Pretty Hate Machine" peaked at #67 in the UK and reached #75 in the U.S. Billboard 200. After receiving highly favorable reviews from critics, Reznor feuded with TVT over promotion of the album and eventually signed with Interscope Records. "Pretty Hate Machine" was later certified triple-platinum for sales of 3 million copies, becoming one of the first independently released records to do so. The signature song on "Pretty Hate Machine" is "Head Like a Hole", released as the second single, it enjoyed heavy rotation on the radio at the time of its release, eventually reaching #9 on Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart, #28 on Alternative Airplay (Billboard) chart and #45 in the UK. Other singles included "Down in It" and "Sin". "Pretty Hate Machine" is an important recording in alternative rock. Trent Reznor’s confessional lyrics about betrayal, disillusionment, and inner conflict gave industrial music a rare human voice, helping push the style toward a much wider audience in the years that followed. #ListeningThroughthe1980s
