@jmhamiltonblog @politico He at least had the ballz to put an end to the Iranian nuclear program. Are you willing to take the risk of an Iranian nuke in a shipping container going off in your town?

Who placed Iran in control of The Strait? Trump. Why is the solution always more war? Why does the U.S. never, ever tap the brakes & assess accountability, responsibility, & punishment for elite failure? Why does America repeat the same mistakes, as the national debt soars?

The Hormuz Ledger
The Hormuz Ledger@HormuzLedger·
The part that isn't being priced yet is the compounding. Isfahan. Khorramshahr. South Pars. Ras Laffan. Kuwaiti refineries. Yanbu. Each strike adds to an infrastructure damage ledger that a ceasefire doesn't clear. Peace talks move markets. Pressure reduction stations don't negotiate. The physical supply behind a reopened strait is being degraded in real time — and every day of shut-in adds to reservoir damage that outlasts any agreement by years. The strait reopening and the supply chain recovering are two different events on two different timelines.

This happened tonight. The same day Trump announced a 5-day postponement. Here is what you need to understand about these specific strikes. Isfahan is not a peripheral target. It hosts one of Iran's largest natural gas distribution hubs and sits adjacent to the Natanz nuclear site. Iran's grid operator pre-emptively took the gas pressure station offline before the strike. That means they had advance warning and still could not stop it. Khorramshahr is a port city on the Iraqi border. Its gas pipeline feeds power stations that serve southwestern Iran, including Khuzestan, where 80% of Iran's oil production is concentrated. These are not symbolic hits. They are surgical cuts to the energy arteries that keep Iranian oil infrastructure running. Trump said 5-day pause this morning. Strikes happened tonight anyway. Either the pause does not apply to this actor, or the pause was the fake news.

As with its nuclear program, Iran can not unlearnt new knowledge. And Tehran has learnt lots in the last 4 weeks. Iran assumed the Strait of Hormuz gave it a lever. But its effectiveness was unproven, and it didn’t know the response of the US and oil markets. Now, it knows.

“Decapitation strikes don’t work,” they say. “The strategy isn’t working,” they say after 5, 10, or 20 days. Strategic effects are cumulative. Impatience is not analysis. Let's review just what Israel has stuck in Iran according to @IDF 🧵

@JavierBlas So how much damage have they incurred by having their military, leadership and nuclear programs in exchange for that “windfall”?

Aside the relaxation of US sanctions on Iranian oil, for Tehran the big win is the fact that >20 days into the war, it’s still exporting oil via Hormuz. At ~1.5m b/d (and assuming $85 a barrel) that’s a ~$2.5 billion windfall since the war started. And the $$$ keeps going up. I don’t believe Tehran ever thought that would be a possibility when it war gamed any conflict with the US and/or Israel. Surely they assumed that if they closed the strait for others, it would be closed for them, too.
