Today marks the 18th Anniversary of the passing of Firefighter Michael Liston of Foynes Fire Brigade & Garda Brian Kelleher of Croom Gardaí. They died in the line of duty at an RTC near Barrigone, on the N69. The families, friends & colleagues of both men remain in our thoughts.

Our Retained Firefighters recently underwent a 1 day RTC refresher course in Kilmallock. The course focused on stabilisation & extrication, and included some mini exercises. Our thanks to all participants & instructors for facilitating the successful running of the course. #RTC

SAREX26 was a multi-agency river rescue and search exercise led by #Limerick Fire and Rescue Service, designed to strengthen coordination and interoperability between responding agencies operating in the river environment. The run-in to the exercise included detailed planning, safety briefings, and lectures on the search methodology to be employed, delivered by LCFRS. This phase also involved close engagement with partner agencies, including Limerick Civil Defence, to ensure a shared understanding ahead of live operations. The first phase of the exercise consisted of a navigation from Limerick City to Ardnacrusha, during which local, site-specific hazards and hydrologically challenging features of the river were identified. This provided valuable context for operational planning and future incident response. The exercise scenario involved a pleasure craft sinking with multiple casualties entering the water. Resources deployed included rescue boats, land search teams, a drone team, and specialist vehicles, including an on-site coordination unit. Effective inter-agency working ensured all casualties were located and recovered in a controlled and timely manner. LCFRS was supported by Naval Service Reserve, Clare Civil Defence, Civil Defence College, and MRCC. A number of learning points were identified, which will inform future training and further enhance joint operational effectiveness. #LimerickEdgeEmbrace @LimerickFire

Our best wishes to ACFO Séamus Barrett, who retires today after 24 years service in Clare County Fire & Rescue Service and Limerick Fire & Rescue Service. We would like to thank Séamus for his hard work and dedication, and wish him a long and happy retirement.

Red Watch completed their day shift at 18:30, relieved by Green Watch. Blue Watch take over at 09:30 tomorrow. Across the county, firefighters are ready to respond to our 6 retained stations. In MRCC the centre is staffed continuously, with the next shift coming on duty at 20:00

We were delighted to welcome the Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, and Limericks first dog Henri to Mulgrave street this morning for a Christmas visit. We would like to wish the Mayor and all Limerick City & County Council staff a happy and peaceful Christmas.

An early Christmas present for the Bumbleance Ambulance Service. Limerick Fire & Rescue Sports & Social Club ran two events this year including a Golf Classic & Barbecue with all profits going to this fantastic charity. Merry Christmas & many thanks to all who kindly donated.

We are devastated to announce the death of SSO Eugene Cusack, Blue Watch, Limerick City Fire Station. Eugene passed away peacefully this afternoon surrounded by his family. Eugene’s funeral details will be announced in due course. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

Long Service Awards for Fire Service Personnel took place today with 301 personnel awarded nationally. A large group from Limerick Fire & Rescue & the MRCC received awards. Congratulations to all for their dedication to communities in Limerick and across Munster. #longservice

The last 2 weeks have seen Firefighters complete refresher training on winches & our Hiab crane. The winch element covered our tirfor, electric winches & hydraulic rescue master system on our ET. Our thanks to Mark Hartell of BHW group for his expert instruction. #heavyrescue
