Am I being dense or are there hardly any middle grade books featuring physical disability or chronic illness? There’s @lisette_auton’s brilliant The Secret of Haven Point (go read it if you haven’t) but what else am I missing? Hit me with your recommendations!

@travelsed @writingwkay that is then hammered out in detail once an author accepts the offer. The fact that they weren’t willing to give any information at all is pretty weird.

@travelsed @writingwkay It’s standard practice when an agent (or publisher) makes an offer for them to provide their contract and give an author time to check in with other interested parties. With bigger publishers it’s usually a general advance, rights, marketing type of thing

today, on the day i was hopeful about sharing exciting news, i feel foolish. i was offered publication from sage & sparrow to now be told that they don’t have the capacity to take me on. i was given a deadline to respond within — which i did, to be met with this. a 🧵

@MostlyMcLeod That being said, Marissa Meyer was a Nanowrimo-er, I think? I know lots of people who participate who are published...but Nanowrimo is a writing process thing. The question you're actually asking is probably more like "what percentage of writers actually end up published"

@MostlyMcLeod I think the point of Nanowrimo is just a way to exert external pressure to finish a book because that's so difficult for newer writers, not necessarily to immediately find an agent or publisher. Can't get an agent if you don't have a book :)

Writers. Be real. Have you had success in Nanowrimo? Has anyone found an agent after it? Or a publisher?

@lindsayfickas I saw the beard guy from Dude Perfect at the Jurassic Oceans exhibit at the Field Museum with his family. They were looking at plieosaurs. My kids, who are huge fans, did not recognize him.

We're trying to decide which edge to put on @marissa_meyer 's GILDED duology. Which one is your favorite? Castle or Floral?

@sarah_aronson To be a writer, I thought I needed to be an English major & dress & smell more writerly (long scarves? Dangly hoop earrings? Patchoulis?) I thought I had to randomly quote Shakespeare &Donne at cocktail parties. & that I would go to them. And I had to write about war and nihilism

@tophervivian pantser here! I think a lot of writing advice is best used during revision. I tend to listen to advice with a finished or nearly finished draft in mind and use it to reverse plot and refine my already written story.

When I first started writing fiction, most of the advice was written from a plotter's POV. It made me feel like pantsing (which felt most comfortable to me) was not a legitimate way to draft. I wish we had more writing advice for pantsers. #WritingCommunity
