The show is "adding fresh developments" and "expanded arcs across seven episodes"—code for shoehorned identity politics. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (the race-swapped Wonder Man) takes the role first played by Scott Glenn and later immortalized by Denzel Washington. The story still follows John Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary haunted by PTSD who tries to rebuild his life but is dragged back into violence. But unlike the movie's tight revenge focus, the series bogs down Creasy's redemption journey with heavy emphasis on his internal trauma and emotional struggles. The innocent 9-year-old protectee has been aged up to a teenage girlboss prodigy full of attitude and rebellion. And Creasy is saddled with a tough FEMALE professional driver with gang ties, who becomes his KEY ALLY against terrorists. Read between the lines: Creasy will become yet another castrated black hero in the vein of Amazon's "Cross," "Paradise’s" Xavier Collins, and Disney's "Wonder Man." Thanks, Netflix—another classic ruined.
