3+ years ago, the Mayor's Juvenile Justice Advisory Group recommended a robust plan for community-based services to support youth & address behavior like curfew violations w/o system involvement. The report, like many others, was ignored. #carenotcontrol ovsjg.dc.gov/sites/default/…

The emergency bill before the Council today is likely to pass in some form. But there is still time to minimize some of the harm from the worst pieces of the bill (i.e., adult detention) & ensure that there are at least some proactive pieces in the bill.

Proud to visit @aehollowell's class @DukeU for the 11th straight year! We became close talking about losing a father. Today, I got to tell his class that now he knows my son, Andy, named after my father. Zoom isn't as good as in person, so I hope to be back at Duke next year!

Decreasing penalties for crimes amidst a crime surge demonstrates how out of touch DC lawmakers are with their constituents. D.C. residents deserve better than a city council that votes against their interests and safety and favors prioritizing criminals.

Don’t know whether it’s the algorithm or what, but I’m seeing a lot of people talking junk about ChAllen. Thanks @charlesallen for imagining a future that isn’t grounded in the racialized violence of policing. Our communities deserve better. Young people of color deserve to live.
