The lawlessness of black South Africans will one day be used to justify, support and fund separatist movements in South Africa. That narrative is already being developed in parts of the West: “save the whites from genocidal black savages.” It is a dangerous, racist framing, but fools are handing that narrative ammunition every single day. The difference this time is that Africa may not be as sympathetic or forgiving towards South Africa as some people imagine. That day may come within our lifetime. Mark my words. These people are so poorly educated and politically short sighted that they cannot even envisage such an outcome, let alone understand how their behaviour could be weaponised against them. But the cloud is forming, and it will rain at some point!

As they continue spreading misinformation and outright lies to generate fear, hatred and division such as the absurd claim that South Africa has 30 million migrants, which would mean nearly half of our population consists of migrants — we must never tire of telling the truth about the deep social and economic crisis facing black people 32 years after democracy. The reality is that unemployment, poverty, inequality, hunger, corruption, collapsing public services, crime and hopelessness were not created by migrants. They are the product of decades of failed economic policies, deindustrialisation, austerity, corruption and the abandonment of working-class communities. Those who cannot defend their arguments with facts resort to insults. We block them. Those who deliberately spread misinformation, sow fear and hatred, or divert discussions away from the real issues confronting workers and the poor, we ignore. Our task is not to win social media shouting matches. Our task is to organise, educate and mobilise. We will continue to expose the lies, challenge the scapegoating of vulnerable people, and direct attention to the real causes of the crisis facing millions of South Africans. The poor must never be turned against the poor while those responsible for unemployment, inequality, exploitation and corruption escape accountability. For those interested in facts rather than propaganda, watch Zwelinzima Vavi’s debate with Africa Independent TV and judge the arguments on the basis of evidence, facts and logic rather than fear and prejudice. Truth remains our most powerful weapon.

The world will come to understand the true nature of who they are. Bunch of useless apartheid leftovers.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus@DrTedros

It is profoundly heartbreaking to witness another surge of xenophobic violence in #SouthAfrica this week. Hundreds have marched on Parliament, thousands of families have been displaced, and lives have been tragically cut short. These include at least five Ethiopians killed earlier in the attacks, and five Mozambicans who died in Mossel Bay. Thousands more are now fleeing for their lives. To see South Africa turn to xenophobia is a tragic betrayal of the country's struggle for independence and freedom. African nations stood united to dismantle apartheid. Ethiopia proudly supported "Madiba," Nelson Mandela, in 1962 and issued him a passport so he could travel the continent. Other countries helped in many ways, including with political and financial support. Disagreements and grievances must be addressed by the justice system and the rule of law, never through vigilante violence and collective punishment. South Africa deserves better. Africa deserves better. Stop the hate. Protect the vulnerable. Uphold our shared humanity.

What if Elon Musk’s estimated $1.1 trillion fortune was shared equally among citizens of these African countries? 🤔 🇳🇬 Nigeria (250M people): $4,400 per person 🇿🇦 South Africa (65M): $16,900 per person 🇰🇪 Kenya (54M): $20,000 per person 🇬🇭 Ghana (36M): $30,500 per person 🇺🇬 Uganda (46M): $24,000 per person 🇲🇿 Mozambique (36M): $30,500 per person The smaller the population, the bigger the payout. The xenophobic attacks in South Africa have revealed the truth which blacks in that country will be hestitant to appreciate. South Africa's problem is not the Kenyan, Nigerian, Zimbabwean, or Mozambican migrant. Their absence will not create jobs. The challenge is structural, inequality, unemployment, and the unfinished economic legacy of apartheid. Remember the Frontline States that sheltered your freedom fighters. History demands gratitude, not xenophobia. @AyubAbdikadir @CyrilRamaphosa @SuluhuSamia
