The only reason drone warfare isn’t treated like nerve gas or land mines under international law is because it isn’t the West’s sons dying from it. As soon as it’s not Ivans being blown to bits but Johns and Toms the “discussion on the ethics of drone warfare” will become a mainstream talking point.

UPDATE 2: After facing a massive backlash for 'recommending' Sri Lanka Customs to detain books by Tamil author P. Theepachelvan, Arts Council of Sri Lanka now claims that the decision was made by the Defence Ministry, which comes under the purview of President @anuradisanayake.

UPDATE: Director Gen. of Customs has informed Tamil writer Theepachelvan, that based on recommendations made by Sri Lanka Arts Council & State Literary Sub-Panel, 2 of his books will be released while the rest will be retained in their custody under section 120 of the Penal Code.

🪔 Annai Poopathy's sacrifice remembered in Batticaloa 38 years on Annai Poopathy, who fasted unto death in protest against the atrocities committed by Indian Peace Keeping Forces, was remembered in Batticaloa yesterday. Poopathy Kanapathipillai, was a member of the Navatkerny Mother's Front when she commenced a fast unto death on March 19, 1988 to protest the injustices and atrocities committed by the IPKF.
