Our Water and Air focus group is charged with developing the life-support systems of the regenerative habitat—systems that ensure access to clean water and breathable air under both current and future environmental conditions. As planetary boundaries are crossed and climate instability increases, the ability to secure these essential elements becomes non-negotiable. Our task is to design integrated water and air systems that purify, reclaim, and circulate these resources in closed-loop cycles, ensuring their availability even in the face of drought, pollution, atmospheric disruption, or extreme weather events. This includes atmospheric water generation, greywater and blackwater treatment and reuse, advanced filtration, stormwater harvesting, and distribution systems that function in both off-grid and high-stress scenarios. For air, we are exploring biofiltration, electrostatic purification, passive ventilation, and oxygenation methods that maintain indoor and outdoor air quality even when external conditions deteriorate. The framework must also address resilience to increasing wildfire smoke, airborne toxins, and the potential collapse of normal hydrological cycles due to the breakdown of ocean-atmosphere interactions. Our deliverable will be a location-adaptable framework supported by a resource library of purification, filtration, and environmental stabilization technologies. These systems will not only protect human health but also support ecosystem regeneration—recharging aquifers, restoring air quality, and maintaining humidity and temperature balance. We are preparing for a world where our atmosphere may no longer behave as it has, while also committing to technologies and practices that can help heal and rebalance it. The systems we create must be capable of sustaining life in the face of crisis and contributing to planetary renewal.
