I’m currently in Kyiv, Ukraine. What the Russians have done to this city, and country, is abhorrent. And it continues night after night: attack drones buzzing overhead, bombers taking off into the skies, threatening all below them. What an incredible city, nation, and people.

Fifteen years ago today (1 May 2011), U.S. Navy SEALs raided a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan and killed Usama Bin Laden. The raid marked the end of a more than 15-year effort by partners across the Intelligence Community to find Bin Ladin. Learn more: cia.gov/stories/story/…

A man has been found guilty of preparing terrorist acts. Armed officers arrested him as he attempted to breach security at the Israeli Embassy in London, carrying two knives.

@weirdfigs @TimesRadio @ZackPolanski They have a responsibility to comment responsibly. He, as always, deliberately whipped up the armchair generals who know nothing about dealing with violence and terrorism.

@MattPDryden @TimesRadio @ZackPolanski it is the responsibility of politicians to speak about how the country is run, it is the responsibility of public service workers to remain silent about political matters in the run up to an election

@MattPDryden @TimesRadio @ZackPolanski Except Polanski was completely correct. It was not effective, it is directly warned against by their own standards and as a member of the London Assembly he has a right to comment on the Met. Officers bravery does not negate met training failures. It would be on them if he died.

@ZiaYusufUK You’re badly uninformed on PREVENT. Still. Do some reading. The threat posed by an individual is fluid: it changes over time. It can only be assessed at the point of referral. PREVENT is a non-criminal programme: engagement is voluntary.

So now we learn that this was YET another stabbing by a man who had been previously referred to PREVENT. Just like Rudakabana. At this point, if PREVENT were being honest it would rename itself FACILITATE.

@Bigarsenalfang @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski Don’t be disingenuous. It is clear you’ve never consoled the victims of terrorism or serious violence. Seen it first-hand. Your misplaced sympathy is an insult. You don’t live in the real world.

@MattPDryden @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski Damn right I think the police went OTT and I would feel the same in any situation. I ain't gonna be a hypocrite and change my mind.

@AdamAdamhall388 @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski So you lied about the facts, and when called out, still maintain the force was excessive. I hope you and your loved ones never need ‘excessive’ police force to save your lives. You’d hate that.

@MattPDryden @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski I will never ever defend any criminal. But when you are down with cops holding you down. Don't mean anyone should kick someone in the head. What if that terrorist died. There would be no justice. A cop would be sacked. No one wins.

@AdamAdamhall388 @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski I thought you might go quiet there Adam lad when you’d put your glasses on and had another look at the footage. And yes, violent, armed criminals absolutely deserve a kick in the head if it means protecting the public.

@AdamAdamhall388 @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski That is a lie. Watch the footage again. He was kicked in the head because he still had the knife in his hand and refused to drop it after several warnings. He was only handcuffed when police managed to free the knife and overpower him.

@MattPDryden @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski Stfu. Zack pointed out what is obvious to every rational person. The excessive violence was unnecessary and if he had been killed there would be no justice for the victims.

@AdamAdamhall388 @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski He attempted to kill people and would’ve carried on doing so. He tried to kill the police who bravely intervened. He could’ve had an explosive device on his person. He failed to surrender. You’re defending a terrorist. Would you think differently if your loved one was a victim?

@MattPDryden @piersmorgan @ZackPolanski Why should he have to go. What did he say that was wrong. The police was in the wrong for constantly kicking someone in the head. Regardless of any crime you don't do that.

The UK terrorist threat level has been raised to SEVERE – meaning an attack is highly likely. For you, the public, this means remaining alert but not alarmed. If you see anything that doesn’t feel right report via gov.uk/ACT. In an emergency always call 999.

The UK's threat level has increased to “severe”. This follows a rising Islamist and Extreme Right Wing terrorist threat, and yesterday's abhorrent antisemitic terrorist attack. People should be vigilant as they go about their daily lives, and report any concerns to the police. Our world-leading police and security services continue to work, day and night, to keep our country safe.
