They exist, they're called scientific studies on child psychology. Most parents don't read them so that they can go along spanking and screaming and neglecting without thinking of the true consequences.

Every parent has shortcomings to some extent because every child is a different person with their own complex thoughts and feelings. What’s “good” for one kid, might be bad for another.
