The funniest film phenomenon I’ve seen is the mythologizing of the serial killer. In most serial killer movies, they’re depicted as cunning, calculating, and motivated by arcane curiosity. In reality, most serial killers were very low IQ, motivated primarily by mental illness and poor impulse control, and only got away due to terrible police work and lack of technology. Almost all serial killers in real life weren’t leaving behind bible verses as clues to their next victim, they were actually rather mundane, boring criminals with uncontrolled fetishes.
