Hey Elon, you slapped a big “True” on that chart showing fertility rates tanking as GDP per capita skyrockets—basically proving richer countries make fewer babies.
So here’s the fun contradiction I’m stuck on: If your AI-and-robots future delivers the ultimate abundance where humanity “wants for nothing” and everyone’s living like kings… doesn’t this data suggest birth rates will keep diving off a cliff?
We’ll have trillions of bots churning out every gadget, vacation, and luxury imaginable… but fewer and fewer actual humans around to crave any of it (or, y’know, buy the next iPhone 47). At some point the robots might run out of new stuff to invent because we’ve hit Peak Human Desire™.
Or are we secretly counting on the bots to start dating and making robot babies to keep the whole party going? 😂
Genuinely curious how those two big ideas fit together in the long run!

@elonmusk I mean right now people are saying “what’s better than sex?… a really good book.” is that because people are exhausted from working to gain so little? that a really good book sounds way better than taking care of kids. Do you think that could or would change if we had robots?

@elonmusk Do you think having Optimus robot people would want to have more kids?
