We understand how unsettling this has been for residents, and their safety has been our top priority. Following extensive ground investigations, it's been found the sinkhole is not the result of historical coal mining. We'll continue to support partners and affected residents.

Update: Over the past 10 days, in our capacity as a category 2 responder, we have supported and worked with @blackburndarwen and Tilia Homes to keep people safe and to investigate the cause of the #sinkhole at Greenfield #Darwen.

We will continue working closely with the local authority to ensure the site is safe and residents are kept informed.

Update: We are currently in the process of filling and stabilising the sinkhole in the Green Field area of Darwen. Our initial investigations have shown evidence of historical mining and further detailed investigations will take place.

Investigations continue to determine the cause of the incident and where responsibility lies.

We received a report of a ground collapse in the Green Field area of Darwen yesterday lunchtime from @blackburndarwen. Keeping people safe is our top priority. We are working with the council and housing developers to secure and stabilise the collapse as quickly as possible.
