It has taken the effort of young amazing medics on this Tl to expose the trauma they go through in these public hospitals,since the union they trusted to advocate for them is in bed with the oppressor.

We need a law that says politicians can only be treated in public hospitals or the region they serve. Hakuna kutoka nje. We have the doctors and the resources they just need to stop looting.

I had an 11 year old patient who got bitten by a snake with cytotoxic venom. The only antivenom we had in the hospital had expired in 2014. I had to watch the patient's platelets drop from 300 to 1 not being able to do anything, watching blisters form from the snakebite

Nobody administered the expired anti-venom? Since death was the expected outcome, nobody was daring enough to take the risk?
This is why I have a problem with extremely risk averse (health) systems.

@chassCindy It's so sad. This family had even gone to the trouble of killing the snake and bringing it to hospital so we could identify it better. They brought her in immediately. They did everything right but the system failed them

@Mklovesdr Perhaps you should have used it.
My uncle’s life was saved by expired anti-snake venom. He had been bitten by a viper. Coagulopathy had already set in. And the expired drug was the only one available. The doctor had no other option than to administer it.

@Mklovesdr Cytotoxic venom doesn't deplete platelet, rather it causes tissue damage and necrosis, unless you're talking of Hemotoxic venom .

Why didn’t you administer the expired anti venom on the patient instead of watching him die?. I use to think expiration means the product becomes less effective, and not necessarily poison.

During covid the hospital I was working at ran out of oxygen that was supplying the ventilators. We only had 2 portable oxygen tanks and were running around trying to resuscitate patients. We lost 7 patients in less than an hour. Totally devastating.Shame on Ruto and his cronies

@LMezzabifera I had not heard of this, thank you for sharing, will read up on it. But I personally have never seen IV vit C in a Kenyan hospital so I'm not sure how applicable it would be

@Mklovesdr Have you looked at the studies on some snake venom protection with high dose IV vitamin C. It alone may not be enough but there’s some studies where no anti-venom is available . It’s better than nothing I guess
