@Abzybabzy Both yours and his points ring true. Yes you shouldn’t let others define your successes. Peace of mind lays this way!But the old adage “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” still stands for most of us. And how great our successes are perceived is rarely in our hands.

I don’t usually weigh in on these things, but I feel like I should say something here. I don’t agree with this perspective. Yes, luck plays a role—being in the right place at the right time matters. And sure, nepotism exists. But the idea that success is simply given doesn’t sit right with me. Success isn’t something handed down like a gift, or the lottery. It’s something shaped by effort, resilience, and personal definition. Much like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, success isn’t a universal standard—it’s deeply personal. I’ve felt more successful performing in a small pub theatre than in some larger TV productions. Not because of external validation, but because I earned it—through the work, the preparation, the passion I put in. The recognition and opportunities that may come after? Those are lovely bonuses. At the end of the day, success isn’t about what’s given. It’s about what you create, what you value, and what you fight for.
