@Hookean1 This is really useful, as I couldn't find an interactive magnet lab with more than one magnet in it!

There it is - the last full moon of 2025. This moon - the “Cold Moon” is also a supermoon - being slightly closer and larger than usual.

@Miss_Crofts We start year 9, doing the Triple content also allows us to persuade the big Of, that a 3 yr curriculum is justified

🪜 The Scaffolding Effect Chapter 1!
This chapter has really got me thinking, so here’s a small thread on where it’s taken my thoughts… As a science teacher with KS4 students sitting both foundation and higher, I keep wondering should we have two separate curriculums?

@Miss_Crofts Oh damn! We have 9 a fortnight for everyone! I'd be more than happy to chat about our SoWs on how we get it in, and then all of that extra time is time to really nail hard topics

@MrWaitScience This seems like a great solution! I’d love to do something similar, but we just don’t have the time to teach triple content without the extra hours students get when they choose it as an option.

Science teachers. I've been reading through this useful document on the language of Maths in Science. Free from @theASE. A very useful tome for Science teachers and one I have only come across this week: ase.org.uk/mathsinscience

As a parent and a teacher I have two critical recommendations for homework: 1. Ensure it is set and due on a consistent day each week 2. Ensure it has a consistent and straightforward format Hitting these two is the least you can do for students + their parents/carers.

@adamboxer1 Educake, appears to run similar to carousel. Set quizzes online, fairly easy to access questions

@manfeigak @adamboxer1 What I wouldn't do then is Google what sci-hub proxies work and copy and paste the journal's URL into one of those, it would bypass the pay wall. But I would never do it because it's stealing intellectual property...

"Most teachers don't use Twitter/Bluesky/LinkedIn and don't read blogs/books/journals" Is it too spicy to say that maybe they should?
Adam Boxer@adamboxer1

Interesting thread here. My opinion: Lots (probably at least a small majority) of teachers, leaders and teacher trainers don't know the basic foundations of evidence-based practice Where they do, often their understanding is hazy and incomplete Implementation with true fidelity to source material is extremely rare None of this is to blame anyone. It's a fault that comes from three places: 1. Training is still inadequate: teacher trainers of all stripes are still transmitting outdated or inaccurate ideas. 2. Even where it's adequate, only the "frontier" teachers and schools are actually implementing with fidelity at the moment, because "the research" doesn't actually tell you "what to do tomorrow." 3. Culturally, as a profession, we don't prize scholarship and the need to keep "up to date" If you want to get better at implementing evidence based practices, you need to engage with and understand the research, then map it to a real classroom context. That's hard. It takes effort, innovation, and iteration. We shouldn't be surprised then if *at this specific point in time* it isn't widespread. Solutions: 1. Better training on the rudimentaries 2. Better dissemination of *concrete strategies* that work in the majority of classrooms 3. Stop saying things like "we've always done this", because we haven't, and we aren't But we have to be honest that this will take a LOT of time!
