Today in Phoenix, we were preparing for Winter Exams and for the approaching season of Christmas. Our students were particular about decorating and everyone had their input! The preparation for exams was student-centred as the students directed their revision @edmundrice2017

An interesting exercise today with 3 Phoenix: a Horticulture activity on Twinkl called 'Design a Garden'. It consisted of 3 pages: a blank canvas and two pages to choose from. Interestingly, it became an ergonomics challenge and a revision of polygonal shapes @edmundrice2017

The explicit teaching of sentence building using a word tree. The visual cues and scaffolding is removed and the result is creative writing using ARC Autism Reading and Comprehension. We're working on AFLS Assessment of Functional Living Skills in Life Skills too @edmundrice2017

3 Phoenix enjoyed a social outing to Airtastic in Celbridge today. It was a fun way to alert, organise and calm after a busy week in school. We love Space Golf at Airtastic too but spent most of our time bowling #turntaking #finemotorcontrol #executivefunctioning @edmundrice2017

A huge well done to 3 Phoenix students on their blossoming maturity and independence. Our student went to the Wood Tech room, selected the correct screwdriver and mended our sensory toy. An excellent example of applying skills acquired in Wood Tech to real life @edmundrice2017

Our marvellous Phoenix students. Our first student self-taught himself the melody of 'What was I made for' by Billie Eilish from the Barbie movie #bardetbiedl. Our second student had just learnt the right and left hand of a piano piece for RIAM Elementary grade @edmundrice2017

Using a specific colour font on words outside our vocabulary range, 2 Phoenix students worked very well on a visual close test in Horticulture class today. We can't wait to see our new glass house which is currently being installed outside Phoenix!! #repetition @edmundrice2017

A wonderful CPD at Middletown Autism Centre in Armagh today at Music and Autism a Multisensory Approach to Learning. Music supports autistic students to develop emotional regulation, it aids transitions and provides opportunities for autonomy & social interaction @edmundrice2017

3 Phoenix are placing 'Reflection' at the core this term by rating each lesson in our Daily Reflection Journals. We're trialling the ARC (Autism & Reading Comprehension) in Literacy and Anatomy Busy Book which allows us to cut out and paste in arteries/organs etc @edmundrice2017

Stressed brains can't learn, think, or make the best decisions. It does not have the ability to absorb and retain information. How it does have the ability to learn is how safe it feels within its environment. Educators need to know this. Basic neuroscience. 🧠🌱

3 Phoenix students enjoyed the trip to Farmleigh Estate and Gardens earlier for Living in the Community #L2LP. We enjoyed a lovely walk to the Sunken Gardens, stopping on the way to admire the llamas! We ended our trip with a Halloween treat in the Boathouse Cafe @edmundrice2017

Well done to Mr Crummey and Ms Conlon who worked with our Phoenix students in Physical Therapy class during the week. They were showcasing Just Dance 2014 using 'Timber'. Our students and teachers had great fun co-regulating using our interactive touch screen TV @edmundrice2017

Our favourite part of the Dinos Alive Immersive Experience was the virtual reality! The staff were so lovely to us and took great care to ensure our VR helmets were fastened properly and we were ready! Using the VR helmet allowed us to make-believe we were flying @edmundrice2017

The Dinos Alive Immersive Experience provided 3 Phoenix students with the opportunity to revise terms in Geography such as 'Pangea' and 'Ice Age' and it also cast our students in the role of paleontologists and archaeologists @edmundrice2017

The second part of our trip to Dinos Immersive Experience took us to a virtual aquarium with panoramic views of Jurassic sea giants! @edmundrice2017
