@RossBarkan IMO a poll of only 1,454 adults out of millions is not solid numbers, its skewed statistics with lots of potential errors

@HoldThe_Phone @ShockTop doesnt count michigan 92 93 final four but then refers to juwan howard’s “gonna shock the world” ncaa is so corrupt, ncaa vacated final four is just as real as any final four - heck the 92 93 michigan team is more memorable than most, juwans quote being referenced here and all

@littleapostate We still don’t fully understand how gravity affects different forms of life over time, and studying it in space helps improve medicine, biology, and physics back on Earth. Expanding knowledge there benefits science as a whole, not just space agencies

@RohanNadkarni telling take. i am less judgemental on 300lb athletes with numerous leg injuries running into others because of the force and stresses required to slow down, but you can judge others all you want

I normally get depressed around my birthday because I’ve always seen my solar return as a time of reflection. I always think about all the things I didn’t accomplish, all the mistakes I’ve made and all the things I want to do in the future but this year I’m just thankful to be here. A couple of weeks ago I survived this accident without a scratch on me with no injuries, just minor soreness. I feel incredibly blessed & appreciative to reach 40 years old & feel like I hit the best bet I’ve ever won.

@LevineJonathan ‘news architecture’? more like editorial workflow, or news production systems so many industries misappropriate architecture

I also started in the aggregation mines of digital journalism — I once wrote 11 stories in a single day. I can't say I enjoyed it very much, but it did teach me a lot about news architecture which remains valuable to me now AT THE SAME TIME — SOOO much newsroom energy is today dedicated aggregation. The more of that we can dump on robots, the more resources can be directed toward the real reporting everyone says they want more of
Charlotte Alter@CharlotteAlter

This used to be the work of junior journalists. Aggregating other news stories, scanning press releases for newsworthy nuggets, cross checking with sources, checking facts, writing it all up… that was my job as a junior reporter for many many years. Doing that work taught me how to write and think. Now that AI does it, who will even have the chance to develop real journalism skills anymore? wsj.com/business/media…

@RossBarkan Steel was invented in the 1850s, but it wasn’t until the 1880s that it became profitable, powering skyscrapers and railroads. AI maybe similar: the tech exists, but we’re only now starting to see how it can transform the economy and the way we build and organize society

Facebook was profitable! It made money! It didn't lose 50 billion dollars! It sold ads and did not cost very much to operate! For your sake, you should hope the government bailout of AI comes sooner rather than later.
Sheel Mohnot@pitdesi

In 2010, @dhh argued Facebook was a fantasy at $33B because it wasn’t outrageously profitable with 500M users after 7 years. Ofc it went on to be worth trillions. Every generation of tech has its "will never be profitable" crowd. AI labs are getting the same treatment today.

@RossBarkan @NYMag NYC could have directed continuous salting of pedestrian areas bus stops, crosswalks, public housing & schools. deployed crews daily during refreeze conditions & treated pedestrian access as equally critical as vehicle traffic—standards followed by DOTs in the frigid parts of US
