On this date in transportation history, Pedro Mir station, named after the iconic Dominican Republic poet laureate, opened for operations on Line 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro! It was built beneath Avenida John F. Kennedy, a major thoroughfare that spans 10.3 miles!

On this date in transportation history, the Art Deco Greyhound terminal at 1100 NY Ave in DC opened with swing dancers and 1,000s of guests! Designed by W. Arrasmith, this landmark hosted the 1961 Freedom Riders and WWII travelers. Now part of a high-rise, its history lives on.

On this date in transportation history, the New York was launched in Delaware and became the first steam-powered pilot boat in New York Harbor! Designed by A.C. Smith, it served for 54 years, famously rescuing passengers in 1929 before retiring in 1951. A true maritime icon.
