In yet more signs of desperation as Russia's battlefield losses multiply, the Kremlin's trolls on X and other social media are actually trying to pin this murder on Ukraine. There is simply no level of evil, cowardice, and malice Moscow won't stoop to.

Robert Kuzovkov, an artist who worked under the pseudonym Semyon Skrepetsky, had recently joined protests against the Putin regime. He had lived in Poland since 2021 after leaving Russia to avoid arrest. ft.trib.al/DtC2drj

Seven years ago today, 16 June 2019, one day after CE Carrie Lam withdrew the extradition bill, the people of Hong Kong still went out on a peaceful march and continued protesting her & the totalitarian GovHK. It would be called “The 2 Million + 1 March”. #NeverForget #FuckGovHK

616, 16 June 2019, Father’s Day Sunday, five years ago today, saw the largest protest march in Hong Kong’s history. It was called the 2 Million + 1 March. It made headlines worldwide. Sharing photos from my smartphone. Never forget! 1/ KMB added cross-Harbour buses, Grandma Wong

ICYF: "When initially explaining (in a video posted on Truth Social, rather than an address from the Oval Office, as is the custom) his reasoning for the full-scale attack on Iran, President Trump cheered for revolution. Trump explicitly hoped that the American and Israeli joint operation to decapitate the Iranian theocracy—including the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and several other top Iranians officials—would create the permissive conditions for regime change. He called on the Iranian people to seize power. “When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for generations,” he said." michaelmcfaul.substack.com/p/a-war-still-…

#China didn’t want you to read our new report on rights abuses in detention. They tried to shut it down by writing to the launch venue. Fake posts circulated on X showing the wrong date & location. Today as we tried to publish our site went down likely a DDoS attack.🧵[1/5]

Can we just say now that the folks selling us on China as a market for US growth in exports are “lying”. For more than a year this has been obvious. China doesn’t have the market the US needs for growth in US exports. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

The last time I testified at the CECC, it was on the grave decline of Hong Kong’s autonomy & political rights. This time, I testified on a threat hitting much closer to the US: the CCP’s transnational repression & its long-arm influence on American soil. Watch my full testimony:
China Commission@CECCgov

Addressing #TransnationalRepression is a “litmus test” for the country. If the U.S. does not “act quickly, the PRC will continue to push our boundaries.” Watch @AnnaKwokFY's testimony.👇

It is just common sense to avoid doing business with military companies from a hostile, adversarial nation that will turn around and use that capital to threaten American interests. The CCP's angry reaction to the updated list of blacklisted Chinese companies confirms what we already know. China's commitment to military-civil fusion is growing, and its tech products are never benign. American companies should stop working with these Chinese military companies.france24.com/en/asia-pacifi…

Freedom House
Freedom House@freedomhouse·
Freedom House is horrified by the killing of artist and cartoonist Semyon Skrepetsky (Robert Kuzovkov), whose work fearlessly mocked and challenged some of the world’s most repressive leaders. The Kremlin’s record speaks for itself. Critics have been imprisoned, exiled, poisoned, and killed. If this attack was connected to Skrepetsky’s activism and artistic work, it would be another reminder that authoritarian regimes often view themselves as judge, jury, and executioner when it comes to those who expose their corruption and abuse. Polish authorities should fully investigate this crime, including any potential transnational links, and hold those responsible accountable.
Hanna Liubakova@HannaLiubakova

Horrific news from #Poland. Russian artist and cartoonist Semyon Skrepetsky, known for his sharp satire targeting Putin, Kadyrov and the Russian regime, has reportedly been killed in Biała Podlaska near the Belarusian border. The police are investigating the circumstances.

Time lapse video of the march of 2 million on June 16, 2019 in #HongKong: what a whole population united in its desire for justice, democracy & self-determination looks like. The heat, the emotion, the intensity of the crowd, how ordinary & peaceful we all were. Unforgettable.

The Committee for Freedom in Hong Kong Foundation
🕯️Today, we remember Hong Kong activist Marco Leung Ling-kit (梁凌杰), the man in the yellow raincoat. On 15 June 2019, he fell to his death after protesting against a law that would allow extradition to mainland #China. His tragic death moved millions to march for freedom in #HongKong on June 16, 2019.

Undeterred, outraged, but unbroken, brave Hong Kong kept returning to the streets and on 16th of June, set a record turnout of 2 million "and 1" protesters. Now wearing black to mourn Marco Leung Ling-kit, the mood had shifted. His slogans became central to the 5 demands.

The protests, begun weeks earlier, erupted in June when all Hong Kong realized it was now or never, "do or die". Days earlier citizens protested outside LegCo. On June 9 over one million marched to force the gov to reconsider, who responded with teargas and violence on the 12th.

Hong Kong 16 June 2019 7 years has passed. ☂️ 2 million + 1 Hongkongers march in HK's largest ever protest for freedom against China's tyrannical takeover and despised extradition law. Protest for a promised democracy that was stolen. 📷 StandNews #NeverForget #FightForFreedom

#HK, 16 June 2019. Sea of black as HongKongers mourned the passing of #antielab protestor, Marco Leung Ling-kit, who had fallen to his death a day earlier. Demo organisers estimated a turnout of 2 mil + 1. The +1, they said, was Marco, whose spirit marched with them.
