The first first Altcoin from April 2011. The beginning of Crypto. Namecoin proved Bitcoin could evolve. Crypto reached global adoption thanks to Namecoin.
The first altcoin to Bitcoin is actually Namecoin. It used the same mining algorithm as Bitcoin, sha256d. After Namecoin came about a dozen other altcoins: Ixcoin, Iocoin, Solidcoin, Tenebrix, etc. This was all before Litecoin was launched. Every one of these coins are now dead.
@PeterMcCormack @jillruthcarlson Satoshi supported namecoin. I’m quite positive he’d support some other coins if he were around (hey, no one’s perfect). As I said earlier he’d probably want Vitalik to have a guest post on his blog. Privacy coins too
