That @GovernorShapiro's response to the recent developments in the Ellen Greenberg case is to tell her family that "Lashing out isn’t going to change the evidence" is disgraceful. If that is truly his attitude, then the man isn't fit to be a dogcatcher in Pennsylvania, much less Governor. (And yes I heard the pablum at the beginning. He might as well have started "with all due respect.") I don't know if Ellen died by suicide or was murdered. I don't know because the city of Philadelphia performed a shoddy investigation that no one can, or should, trust. All Ellen's parents have ever asked for is an unbiased investigation. Instead they get treated like this, by the same man who washed his hands of the matter when he was attorney general. At the very least, @GovernorShapiro should apologize for his callous and disgusting statement. I was hopeful about the new investigation, but this attitude just goes to show that some people in power in Pennsylvania are not interested in the truth. I hope @PAAttorneyGen will do the right thing and finally give this case the real investigation it deserves.

Kudos to Brian for confronting @GovernorShapiro about Ellen Greenberg. A few quick thoughts: 1) I hope on NewsNation tonight we see more questions from Brian where he asks the governor about his connection to Sam Goldberg’s uncle & cousin - (James Schwartzman and cousin Kamian) who Sam called before 911. Josh Shapiro went to high school with James’ daughter. James also supported Josh’s various campaigns. James is/was a powerful Philly criminal defense attorney. With that said, I’ve been in Brian’s shoes and it’s very difficult to ask even close to all your questions— there is pressure to move it along —especially since the presser had nothing to do with Ellen Greenberg. 2) The Governor, I think, is (not so) subtlety gaslighting the Greenbergs — it’s ok “for them to lash out at me” — Greenberg family didn’t want me handling it, again laying blame elsewhere … And, of course,“need more evidence other than what someone says” …referring to the ME changing his ruling from a suicide to something other than a suicide JUST THIS PAST SATURDAY after 14 years. Anything BUT A SUICIDE. He’s NOT just someone. Dr. Marlon Osbourne issued the original ME report on Ellen. His word matters. We need to hear from Dr. Osbourne about WHY he initially switched his ruling from homicide to undetermined to suicide (after a closed door meeting with Philly Police, the ME and others). Governor Shapiro is very smart and very well aware of ALL these details. Instead it’s essentially the Greenberg’s “problem” that they’re in this situation where “no parent should have to bury a child”. 3) He has authority as Governor to order an investigation or order @PAAttorneyGen to do so. Instead, he passed the buck again. He put the onus on @chescoda …effectively still turning a blind eye. 4) His answer is so measured. The Governor is careful with EVERY SINGLE word he says. There is zero genuine compassion in my opinion. 5) He’s very slick. His manner of speaking, gesticulating, even facial movements are eerily similar to President Obama. 6) Governor Shapiro is smooth but this case will come back to bite the Governor in the proverbial ass, as well as his Presidential aspirations. It’s never too late to step up and do the RIGHT thing. I’ll be watching NN tonight. And good on them for applying some pressure to the man in charge of PA.

This is my theory and why I believe #SamGoldberg is the prime suspect in the killing of #EllenGreenberg: When the medical examiner conducted an autopsy on Ellen’s lifeless body, he found bruises (many) in different stages of healing. This strongly suggests that Ellen was being physically abused over time, rather than sustaining all injuries in a single incident. Repeated bruising in domestic violence cases often indicates an ongoing pattern of abuse rather than accidental injuries. This leads me to believe that Ellen was trapped in an abusive relationship with her fiancé, Sam Goldberg. The fact that she called her parents the day she was found dead, expressing a desire to return home, is significant. Many victims of domestic violence reach a breaking point where they decide to leave their abuser. This decision is often met with increased aggression from the abuser, as studies show that the most dangerous time for a victim is when they attempt to leave. Research indicates that 75% of women who are killed by an intimate partner are murdered after they try to leave the relationship. Ellen’s sudden decision to leave likely meant that the wedding was going to be canceled when save the date invitation were already sent out, and she was ending ties with Sam for good. This could have been the breaking point that led to her murder. Domestic violence homicides often follow a recognizable pattern—escalating control, fear of abandonment, and ultimately, a final act of violence when the abuser realizes they are losing control. The question we should be asking is: If Ellen had not been planning to leave, would she still be alive today?
