The Invisible Bank Robber of 1995, In 1995, a man named McArthur Wheeler walked into two Pittsburgh banks in broad daylight, held them up at gunpoint, and casually walked out with the cash. He wore no mask, made no effort to hide his face, and even smiled directly into the security cameras. When police arrested him later that evening, Wheeler was genuinely baffled. He could not comprehend how they had tracked him down so easily, insisting over and over that his foolproof disguise should have rendered his face completely unrecordable. Wheeler's grand master plan relied entirely on lemon juice. After learning that lemon juice could be used as invisible ink—only revealed when exposed to a heat source, he applied a profound lack of logic to his own anatomy. He figured that if he covered his face in lemon juice and stayed away from direct heat, the security cameras would only capture an invisible blur. He was so confident in his chemical hypothesis that he even took a Polaroid selfie before the robberies. Because he accidentally aimed the camera at the ceiling, the blank photo perfectly confirmed his suspicion: he had vanished. This wildly misguided heist didn't just earn Wheeler a prison sentence; it inadvertently birthed a psychological breakthrough. When Cornell University psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger read about his lemon-soaked arrest, they were fascinated by how someone could be so hopelessly incompetent yet so entirely confident. This led to their groundbreaking 1999 paper detailing a cognitive bias where people with low ability fundamentally lack the self-awareness to recognize their own ineptitude. It turns out the only thing Wheeler successfully blinded that day was himself.

Oldest known photograph of an Irish Famine survivor, 1853. This photo of a laborer smoking a pipe was taken by John Gregory Crace on the Duke of Devonshire's County Waterford estate the year after the famine ended.

Name a player — not named Derek Jeter or Cal Ripken Jr. — that you respect the most for staying loyal to one team for their entire career. In an era of constant movement, those guys are rare. Who’s your pick? 👇⚾ Bonus points if you watched them their whole career.

@CHSN_Blackhawks Feed at the end of the game has been horrible. Glitchy, cut to Rick and Darren before they were ready, cut off the Bedard interview, etc. what is going on?

@classic_film Speaking of anachronisms, here is Eric Clapton at his grandmother's house in 1971, where he's holding his iPhone. (And will likely spill his tea when he looks down at it.)

I'm not a big Bob Dylan fan, but I usually enjoy musical biographies--so I watched A Complete Unknown yesterday. Sounds like it was highly fictionalized and I don't feel I know Dylan any better. Still, the music was good. Several anachronisms, including one in the first few seconds which would have been easy to fix.

Every once in a while, music gets a little self-aware and writes a song about itself. What are some great songs that are about music? Here's our Mount Rushmore: "Killing Me Softly with His Song" - Roberta Flack "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts "I Write the Songs" - Barry Manilow "Old Time Rock and Roll" - Bob Seger What's yours?
