This is one of the most important scenes in all of The Sopranos. I think it's significant that the therapist who forces Carmela to hear the brutal truth is Jewish, because the rest of the show has often explored the idea of Catholicism as an enabling system for Mafia criminality.

The Sopranos doesn't belong on this list. Tony Soprano is a violent, predatory, remorseless criminal right from the beginning. The morally complex - as opposed to psychologically complex - character on that show is his wife, Carmela, who has to grapple with living on blood money.
