Electric vehicles avoided oil demand equivalent to 70% of #Iran’s exports in 2025 🚗⚡ Replacing imported oil used in transport with electric vehicles could reduce total global fossil fuel imports by a THIRD, saving around $600 billion per year. 🔗ember-energy.org/latest-insight…

15 years ago I built Britain’s first electric car, the Nemesis - and a national network of chargers (The Electric Highway) for the electric cars that were coming. All we had back then was 3kW chargers, like a three pin plug and it took hours. But I knew that would change and I foresaw a time when we could charge an electric car in the time it takes at the petrol pump. Within ten years we had 300kW chargers and now, five more years on the Chinese are making MegaWatt class chargers that’s 1,000kW plus - and EV charging is possible in the same time it takes to fill a petrol car. Fantastic progress. The age of the internal combustion engine is over, it began to end 15 years ago. It will be fully over in another 15. thetimes.com/uk/transport/a…

Growing global adoption of electric vehicles helped avoid the consumption of 2.3 million barrels of oil per day last year. By 2030, avoided daily consumption could more than double to 5.25 million barrels. “Electric vehicles are increasingly cost-competitive with gasoline cars. Oil volatility means EVs are a common-sense choice for countries wishing to insulate themselves from future shocks.” Daan Walter, analyst at Ember.

@KathrynPorter26 Dear Kathryn, Energy transition-related minerals demand made up **less than 1%** of total metals mined last year. If that is still too high for you, while you don't mind the 99% of metals mined that are *unrelated* to the energy transition, that doesn't seem rational does it?

@Onno12345 @JavierBlas Nope, Stellantis at merely 8% EV sales in 2024 is very far from going "all-in" on EVs, and they were not competitive on charge time, efficiency, or range either. The companies that are going all-in on EVs on this list are not doing write-downs!

After Ford and General Motors announced large writedowns linked to their EV strategy, today Stellantis has announced it will take ~€22 billion ($26 billion) in impairments as it scales back its EV plans. With a brutal admission by the CEO ⬇️

@FX_Engineer @JavierBlas Nope, global EV sales % last year was around a quarter. Stellantis could not keep up, and couldn't compete: it was only at 8% EV sales in 2024, and they were not competitive on charge time, efficiency, or range.

@JavierBlas Auto sector burning $50B+ on EV pivots that assumed linear adoption curves. Reality: infrastructure lags, consumer preferences shift slower than boardroom timelines. Capital misallocation this size reshapes supplier chains and commodity demand.

@Nigel_Houghton_ @JavierBlas Why are automakers with vastly greater EV sales shares in their mix than Stellantis doing much better financially do you think?

€22 billion isn't an 'impairment.' It is the invoice for a hallucination. For a decade, the Auto Industry built products for Regulators, not Consumers. They mistook 'Political Mandates' for 'Actual Demand.' The lesson is brutal but simple: You can force the Supply. You cannot force the Purchase. The market is finally clearing the error.

@JavierBlas No, it's not an "admission" of the truth, because it's not true: Stellantis at around *8%* of its sales being electric, is *lagging behind* the global EV share of around a quarter of all sales, so for it to blame the "pace" of a transition it cannot keep up with is nonsense.

@PistonHeads Nah you dont understand. 33% figure can also be met by carmakers reducing the CO2 of their petrol car fleet, so actual BEV share needed is much lower

@MatthewWielicki You're looking at a chart from all industrial emissions, not just from the grid. So just a meaningless comparison. Clearly you're not a Dr in a relevant subject to energy.

Wake up, world! Those preaching China's "green energy revolution" are selling you a load of BS. Look at this: China generates 33.2% of global electricity, just over TWICE the US's 14.2%, yet they're spewing out THREE TIMES more CO2 emissions (12B tons vs. US's ~4B tons). That's not a transition; that's fossil fuel addiction on steroids while they flood the market with cheap "green" tech, tricking the West into crippling our economies with net-zero nonsense. They're getting rich off our gullibility!

@LLBiggers So how do you feel about the nitrous oxides and sulphur dioxides that come out of your exhaust pipe?

CO2 isn’t pollution. I spent years anxious every time I filled my car with gas, convinced the CO2 coming out of the exhaust pipe was “polluting” the planet. But CO2 isn’t pollution. It’s plant food. Below 150 ppm, photosynthesis stops and plant life collapses. Before industrialization, CO2 was around 280 ppm. Today it’s about 420 ppm. Plants thrive with more CO2. This is not something to fear.

@spikedonline Very clever of Miliband to travel back in time to the year 2000, cause UK oil production to peak and enter permanent decline due to the geology of the UK continental shelf. In fact, he must have travelled back in time millions of years to structure geological strata. Very smart

Ed Miliband will be remembered as the man who destroyed Aberdeen. His crusade against oil and gas is killing 400 jobs per fortnite, with nothing to replace them. Labour’s energy policies are reckless and cruel, says Nick Tyrone buff.ly/bLXelYY
