@classicaviator2 @JohnLeePettim13 Families had one car, a party line, a black & white TV with rabbit ears, rarely ate at restaurants and didn't travel to far off places. The average size of a house in the 1960s was about 1,000 sq. ft. They did not have it easier. They had it different.

@JohnLeePettim13 Your example is commendable but doesn't dispute the fact that boomers had it far easier than young Canadians do today. Yes, back then "working hard" provided rewards that are simple not available today. Avg pay THEN not only provided far more but was also taxed far less.

Not true Sarah, my first house was 540 sq ft. falling down shack, spent 2 yrs working on that, sold it to buy a 480 sq ft shack, fixed it sold it, and then I moved into a spacious 780 sq ft shack, fixed it sold it. I was then offered a job in Ontario, underground mining mechanic, took the job and bought a 1800 sq ft shack that had sat empty for 3 yrs, even the real estate agent looked at me and laughed when I bought it. Worked 8-12 hour days 6/7 days a week at the mine and then came home to work on that shack for 20 years. Now I am back in Alberta working to build an orchard with a little shack. You see Sarah not all of us won the lottery, some of us had to work our asses off to get to where we are. And here's the thing Sarah, not once did I bitch and moan about how others had it easy, I always thanked the Lord for what I had.
Sarah Piers@SarahPiers5602

@yonkojohn They won a lottery but act like they earned it! $650,000? More like $1.2 mil in Ontario. Their sheer luck put them in this position and it had nothing to do with hard work or skill.

@SarahPiers5602 @yonkojohn That's a 5.9% return on their investment WITHOUT considering a mortgage (5% in the 1960s). If you invest $19k today in the TSX with avg 8% return, you could eclipse this amount over the same 62 years ($2.2mil) without hard work or skill. Not a lottery win.

Canadians are trained to point at seniors who have a $650,000 home today that they paid $19,000 for in 1964! They bought that home not knowing if it would someday be worth $30,000! No one knew the future!

AS this video discusses youtu.be/vB6IDGjprxw?si… I have dramatically changed sleeping habits in the last year or two. Once 11PM - to midnight fall asleep to 6-7AM, I have become a 8PM-9PM fall asleep and arise between 2AM to 4AM I first approached it just medically but I found my spiritual life had grown tremendously over this time. I literally pray 10x more than I did for the first 98% of my life. While like others, I still fall, but my walk with Christ is the most focused ever. But the attacks are also raised, yet I do far more right then wrong these days, "THANK GOD"!!! @shagbark_hick Upstate NY & outstate WI have a ton in common. They both have population centers that drive elections. As of today Supreme Court is 5-2 liberal (& activist). I’m not looking forward to what’s coming around the bend. Love my state, but fear where it’s headed.

In a way, Wisconsin feels like a happier, more friendly, less decrepit / dysfunctional version of Upstate New York. I suspect that any Upstater disgruntled by the social decline in NY could relocate to WI and be quite pleased. WI is our closest non-dysfunctional analogue. Land and climate are strikingly similar; both regions are heavy heavy drinkers with similar "northern" type accents. Lots of farming, deer hunting, four seasons, ice fishing. Kind of insane to think of going "home" but to a genuinely nice, friendly, non-burned-out version of home.

@KingVelesI We did not circumcise our boys even though I was. It became a "don't you want them to look like you" sort of societal cope. Our OB doctor was glad we didn't. She refuses to do them and would have turned our boys over to someone else to do it if we wanted it done.

The American mind cannot comprehend how confusing all those jokes about lotion are to European youths watching American shows. First, you don't even understand what the jokes are about, or why the guys on TV get so embarrassed when someone points out they use lotion. Then, you figure out the joke's about them using lotion to play with themselves, but you still don't understand why the hell they need lotion for that. Then, it occurs to you that circumcised men might need lotion, and now you're EVEN MORE CONFUSED because you're pretty sure the characters in question are neither Jewish nor Muslim. So you ask your buddies at school if they understand what the deal is, and they're all just as confused as you are. I was in my mid-twenties when I learned that, in America, whites get circumcised too, and frankly, I was shocked. From a European perspective, the whole issue looks like this: Jews are very much overrepresented in the medical field in America. They get circumcised for religious reasons and thus have an emotional need to come up with all sorts of health and sexual "benefits" the procedure supposedly grants. Of course, none of the doctors coming up with all that nonsense have any experience with actually having a foreskin, so all they come up with is absurd copes, laughably obvious to intact men living in countries where everyone's intact. Unsurprisingly, when it's not circumcised scientists doing the research, the findings are always the same: Circumcision reduces sexual pleasure in both men AND the women they're with, and makes men MORE vulnerable to STDs. The whole system rests on the practice of circumcising children while they're still too young to object, as very few adult men would ever consent to having their foreskins lopped off, especially since they've actually had the chance to learn what a foreskin is and what it does, and you can't sell them the "it's just a bit of extra skin" BS anymore. Fortunately, it seems Americans are coming to their senses, as circumcision rates are constantly dropping. Now, less than 50% of male newborns in America get circumcised, so it's no longer the norm, but the exception. I don't know if anyone who needs to hear this will read this post, but either way: Save your sons, people! Give them the option to have their bodies as nature intended them to be. Mutilating children is never OK, no matter how normalized it is.

Those people pretending to care about guys that lost money? F* em, they are "signalling" BUT The Psychology of Regret is Real The damage of giving profits back after celebrating is something you cannot recover from if it’s big enough. Just do not celebrate until you’ve taken at least half your profits off the table. As stated herein: Do not celebrate until you take AT LEAST half of your profits off the table.👇 survive and do it again now

I wrote a book on the BP oil disaster, & there’s a critical parallel with ICE protests in Minnesota that almost everyone is missing. When the Deepwater Horizon explosion dominated Twitter for months, the narrative was simple: BP cut corners on safety. That story was comforting. It was also wrong. Dead wrong. The disaster wasn’t caused by too little safety. It was caused by safetyism. Before the explosion, HR and HSE departments overwhelmingly filled with women who never worked a dangerous job in their life became obsessed with eliminating all injuries offshore. Not major hazards. Not catastrophic risk. ALL injuries, even minor cuts & bruises. Tens of millions of dollars. Thousands of hours of paperwork. Endless training modules. Everyone, from dishwasher to captain, was empowered to shut down a drilling operation costing millions per day to prevent a sprained ankle. Meanwhile, people with deep technical expertise, guys who actually understood blowout risk, were sidelined or fired for saying the obvious: That HR induced exhaustion causes accidents. That drowning crews in paperwork makes them miss real danger. That spending money on back-injury training means less money preventing explosions. Like the protesters in Minnesota, HR and Safety became powerful, organized, coordinated via expensive software, mobile & completely detached from reality. One crewman reported a serious onboard fire that nearly killed someone. Nothing happened for weeks. When he kept pushing a manager told him to STFU. He called HR to report the “verbal abuse.” Within hours, an executive helicopter full of HR Quick Reaction Team launched from Houston. They didn’t investigate the fire. They investigated him, the guy who called HR. Their conclusion? The man reporting the fire was “repeatedly harassing the crew to report the fire.” He was fired. A company-wide HR memo publicly shamed him. All in the name of “safety.” Here’s the truth they refused to accept: offshore drilling is dangerous. You cannot extract tens of millions of barrels of oil without injuries & yes, sometimes death. Now apply that lesson to Minnesota. Law enforcement is dangerous. You cannot deport tens of millions of people without injuries & yes, sometimes death. Yes, Renee Good was shot. Yes, Alex Pretti was shot. Yes, ICE operations result in injuries. And yes more people will be hurt by ICE this year. But HR didn’t eliminate injuries offshore. They just reclassified them for statistics, exhausted the workforce, and made people afraid to report real problems setting the stage for a major explosion. That’s exactly what’s happening now. ICE agents are being forced to waste time protecting identities, managing feelings, navigating activist “volunteers” & hesitating rather than acting decisively when seconds matter. Every minute an agent loses sleep worrying about this is a minute less rested. Every hour spent on crowd-management training is an hour not spent on training to manage violent criminals. And worse.. I’m a ship captain. I was trained to make the hardest choice: to do the most good for the most people. I was taught that one day I might have to send a fire team into a space they won’t come back from to buy passengers ten more minutes to reach lifeboats. That’s the job. Numbers matter. Yes, Renee Good was shot. That’s tragic. But it pales next to the hundreds killed by violent illegal immigrants under Biden. It’s nothing compared to the thousands who died between the Darién Gap and Mexico. It’s microscopic compared to the 400,000 fentanyl deaths many in ICUs like the one Alex Pretti worked in. Yes, some children were separated from families. But FAR fewer than the number raped, killed, or abandoned between the Darien Gap & Mexico under Biden The hard truth is this: Safetyism caused the BP explosion. Safetyism has killed millions. Safetyism is killing this nation right now. ICE protestors aren’t saving lives, they are pushing the body count higher.
