Less than 3w ago I had the chance to interview Lucescu. It's the last media interview he ever did. He asked me not to mention his struggles with illness, as he didn't want to downplay the mission and the dream he had, taking Romania to the World Cup. theguardian.com/football/2026/…

It’s an overused word but Mircea Lucescu genuinely was a real legend of the game. Never stopped loving it or learning about it. Knitted together nations and cultures within football via his passion for it in all forms. RIP

@SamAkinlotan The big issue is the safety-first approach of the coach. The wingers will benefit from being hit early to ensure they frequently have 1v1 situations against fullbacks. Arsenal currently spend eons moving the ball around while not making teams break their defensive structure.

We have many players that lack initiative. Why drive the ball forward only to turn back and pass to the defense? Half of the time the possession is lost without any productive output. Why not cross it into the box where you have a striker?

Legendary and one of the most decorated football coaches, Mircea Lucescu, has passed away at the age of 80 😔🕊️ He won 35 trophies as a manager and is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in football history 🏆 Throughout his career, he managed clubs including Shakhtar Donetsk, Galatasaray, Inter, Zenit, Beşiktaş, Dynamo Kyiv, and Brescia. Until recently, he was the head coach of the Romanian national team, a role he stepped down from just days before his passing. Rest in peace, legend 🕊️

🇳🇬 🇧🇷 Lagos hosts Afro-Brazilian Fanti Carnival Revellers don elaborate costumes to bring the rhythm and colours of Brazil's Rio Carnival to the streets of Nigeria's largest city. The Fanti Carnival is a living bridge between Brazil and Africa, reflecting the legacy of Afro-Brazilian returnees who settled in Lagos centuries ago after the abolition of slavery in the Americas

🔴Cuba Is Pan-African Too: Legendary Afro-Cuban Singer Celia Cruz Historic Moment In Zaire 1974 On September 22, 1974, Celia Cruz gave Africa a historic moment at the Zaire ’74 Festival, performing “Químbara” in one of her iconic colorful dresses. It was more than a performance, it was a powerful expression of the enduring bond between Afro-Cuban culture, Africa, and the roots of salsa.

Forgot to include Crespo and Claudio Lopez. You then had rising stars like Henry, Trezeguet, Benni McCarthy, Eto'o, Morientes etc. Owen was younger but a lot more established than these guys at the time. Klinsmann, Sheringham, Bebeto, Yekini, etc still dey o.

The number of in-form and established strikers at France 98 was remarkable. Rivaldo, Ronaldo, T.A Flo, Vieri, Baggio, Del Piero, Inzaghi, Salas, Zamorano, Mijatovic, Suker, Raul, Ikpeba, Kluivert, Bergkamp, Batistuta, Shearer, Owen, Bierhoff. The game has changed a lot.

Falilat Ogunkoya knew how to rise to the occasion. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, in a race stacked with the world’s best quarter-milers, she won bronze in the 400 metres and set an African record. She was back on the track hours later to anchor Nigeria’s 4x400m relay team to a silver medal, sealing her place in the country’s Olympic history. Ogunkoya first made her mark as a 200-metre sprinter, claiming gold at the 1987 All-Africa Games, but it was in the 400m that she found her true strength. By the mid-1990s, she had become one of the world’s most consistent quarter-milers, winning back-to-back African Championships titles and dominating the event at the 1999 All-Africa Games with double gold in the 400m and 4x400m relay. At the World Championships, she repeatedly faced the strongest competition of her era, making the finals in 1995 and 1997 and proving she belonged among the elite. After retiring, Ogunkoya focused on athlete development, using her experience to mentor the next generation.
