@robertoblake Exactly. In fact, "BE PROFESSIONAL" is the philosophy I came up with when I pivoted by brand from Spring Boot Learning to Pro Coder. There is so much power in that idea that too many people don't realize. I'm doing my part to re-enable this concept.

The best way to protect your brand is to be a PROFESSIONAL. But due to the culture of the internet, a lot of people come into their platforms very young and often the mistake their own intelligence or charisma with an audience for MATURITY… The HARSH truth is that people treat their Career as a content creator very CASUALLY … and it leads to being MESSY… REPUTATIONS take a decade to build and a day to destroy. So live intentionally and have the right boundaries, standards and values…

@robertoblake My Sony ZV-E10 Mark I that I got a year ago has been a beast. Absolutely stellar upgrade from using my iPhone. Plus it’s nice and tiny. Easy to grab and set up a shot.

Sony just announced the Sony ZVE 10 Mark II, which would have an increased price point but also a larger battery for longer recording, new vlog cinematic settings and features, and better auto focus. We all are given special gifts. Often time these gifts can sustain us, help us provide for our families and for others. And sometimes, those gifts can serve a much deeper purpose. This past weekend, I went down to visit my parents, who are now in the late 80s. I brought half of my YouTube studio gear with me. Cameras. Microphones. Tripods. Lights. And I let my mother tell her story. She has amazing memories back to before WWII. Times she spent with her grandparents, who were married in a state before that state joined the Union. All my skills I've learned over the past five years at shooting and producing videos for you were now able to quickly and efficiently gather something greater than myself. A recent reader of my latest book heralded my comments in the book that as SW engineers we carry certain duties to the profession. While I appreciate that reader's words, this weekend I felt that I (we) carry an even higher duty to capture the past and preserve it for the future. I have just transferred all the gathered video and stills onto my RAID array and am now importing it into a Final Cut Pro project where I can splice it together. My father, since before I was born, has shot Super 8 films and taken literally thousands of photos. And I feel that I have now taken up a new mantle to carry on this duty to capture such memories in today's day and age. And as my parents have invested much in me to bring me to where I am today, I intend to invest hopefully as much into my own children, so that someday they can carry the torch forward. This is what we all carry in some shape or form. A duty to serve those around us with the talents and gifts granted to us. It may start with your job and your daily tasks. But don't hesitate to help a friend, a family member, or a complete stranger when the opportunity presents itself. I also had the chance to chat this weekend with a family friend I've known since I was quite young. He's also a retired professor and someone I worked with during grad school. He's also a pro coder. He shaped much of whom I am today career-wise. He even got me in amateur radio. When I saw him yesterday, one thing he said stuck with me. He said, "I've got a story for you. All I have now are stories." He said those words in a self-deprecating manner. But I realized in that moment, that if I were to someday reach his age, I too hoped that I would be filled with stories. Because stories are what really matter. Our interactions with each other are what weave all of humanity together. That's what is most important above all. Stories. Do you have any stories?
