💥We’ve been granted permission to take a judicial review on Hampstead Ponds! We were initially turned down for judicial review after the City Corporation tried to get away without having to defend the lawfulness of its policy. Now the Court of Appeal has overturned that judgment, recognising that “expert charities” such as Sex Matters have standing to bring claims for judicial review and called the City of London’s arguments in defence of its “trans inclusive” policy “brief and unpersuasive”. In a speech defending the amendment, Baroness Fox cited our work on gender identity recording options for MAPPA offenders, which provide for 51 gender identities.

Yet another attempt last night at getting the government to implement the recommendations of @ProfAliceS' review on data, statistics and research on sex and gender - in this instance, in terms of police data. Inevitably, the few speeches in support of clarity and consistency were unpleasantly tutted away by trans allies keen to suggest such a tiny dataset can't distort stats (and suggesting our motives for the amendment were to label all trans people offenders). The government minister was just wet in reply. But we chip away...

Very likely to be voted on tonight in the House of Lords. It’s utterly stupid and madness not to collect accurate data. We have to base laws on statistics, and they must be accurate.

Particularly given that Police Scotland has already confirmed to the Scottish Parliament that it is moving to record biological sex for all offences.

It is hard to see why anyone would object to this amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill which simply asks for the sex of suspects and offenders to be accurately and consistently recorded. bills.parliament.uk/bills/3938/sta…
