"When I started out on Broadway, 'Dreamgirls,' we lost half of our cast to AIDS."
Sheryl Lee Ralph—famous for her breakout role in the original Broadway production of 'Dreamgirls' and her ongoing portrayal of the no-nonsense kindergarten teacher on the sitcom 'Abbott Elementary'—champions another kind of teaching through her decades-long work as an activist, particularly raising awareness about HIV/AIDS.
Recently, in collaboration with the DIVA Foundation, the nonprofit she founded in 1990, Ralph executive-produced documentary special 'Living Proof' which highlights the experiences of Black women living with HIV in the South. Leading by example, Sheryl Lee Ralph is honored among TIME's 16 Women of the Year. Read her story and meet the honorees here: time-magazine.visitlink.me/UBKkCp

I asked Ilan weeks ago if he had done any archival work to support his claims about early modern England. He didn't answer. Plainly, the answer was "no." He's relying only on SotR. The Privy Council records and State Papers contain documents that undermine his reductive analysis.

At the one hour mark of this episode, I explain why I think Prof. Gerard Magliocca is wrong re the Gypsies and birthright citizenship. If anything, the “scruples and doubts” that arose about their status suggests the rule “birth alone” was hardly obvious. Take a listen!

The Legal Accountability Project, which advocates for law clerks, stated in a news release Tuesday that its complaint is based on information it received from several former clerks raising concerns about Judge Sarah A.L. Merriam’s workplace conduct.

@nickschifrin and @NewsHour should not refer to the DoD as the “Department of War.” The name can only be changed by an act of Congress and that hasn’t happened at this point.

@AnthonyMKreis I love how you don’t entertain or placate the trolls! Let them read a book, get some education and figure it out lol - amen!

Respectfully, there is no debate. The Anglo-American constitutional tradition of birthright citizenship has been unbroken for centuries, except for Black Americans—which is what the 14A was intended to remedy and secure in perpetuity. It’s been settled law since medieval England.
Randy Barnett@RandyEBarnett
The debate over “birthright citizenship” gets very abstruse very fast. So, now that the issue will be heard by SCOTUS, it’s useful to keep in mind what is and is not contested. A 🧵 thread:

70 years ago today, the Montgomery Bus Boycott began—a powerful act of collective courage that reshaped a nation. For many, it is remembered as the beginning of a global movement. For my family, it was also the beginning of a completely new path.

ON THIS DAY: Seventy years ago, Rosa Parks, a Black seamstress, was arrested after refusing to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama, city bus.
In 1995, she spoke to @DebRobertsABC and reflected on not giving up her bus seat: abcnews.link/eO9dosl

If nothing else, the last nine months should have made it clear that elections matter. But what’s remarkable about America is that we have the power, as citizens, to change this country by voting. Go to IWillVote.com.
