He said they became targets in 2021, when Alysa was expected to compete for the U.S. team at the Beijing Winter Olympics. A person claiming to be connected to the Olympics allegedly contacted them and tried to obtain personal information. “I didn’t know what the Chinese government might do,” he said, adding that he sincerely hoped for his daughter’s safety. He also said the victims of Tiananmen, and those imprisoned for speech, must never be forgotten.
