Another turn. I think we like to jump the gun quite a bit in this field. I’d say more like a fit or writhing instead of a turn, as Mary Snell-Hornby would put it. And if there is indeed such turn, I feel like (re)generating myself in other fields. My 2 cents and rant of the day.

@MortenBeckmann One of my favourites on this is Borges, who sees translations complementing the original. Too bold in Bible translation? Perhaps. But it opens an interesting ideological perspective on how textual plurality, authority, interpretation and community reception are negotiated.

@MortenBeckmann Yes, that makes sense. Plausible source meanings acknowledge interpretive openness and still allow us to discuss coherence and contextual fit in principled ways.

If Translation Studies rejects prescriptive models à la Toury, does that commit us to saying that all translations are equally acceptable? #translationStudies #SourceTextNormativity
