A 4-bed duplex homeowner in Awoyaya, Lagos needed a smarter answer to worsening grid supply and rising diesel costs. So,we( @bafemSOLAR) added solar PV to the home’s energy mix. We installed an SRNE 12kW HESP48120S200-H hybrid inverter(NGN2,594,000), paired with 20kWh battery storage using 2 x SRNE 10.24kWh SR-EOS10B(NGN2,800,000/unit), with room to expand later. On the generation side, we deployed 13kWp solar PV, from a possible 23kWp, limited by available rooftop space. By design, the system powers the building in real time while simultaneously charging the batteries. The result: less diesel dependence, stronger daytime energy coverage, and a more stable power setup for the home. This is smart residential energy planning: start right, build for expansion, and put solar at the center. Request a free quote: quotes@kommercialsolar.com 0901 744 5136(WhatsApp messages strictly)

The Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), Lagos State Chapter hereby informs the general public, the Lagos State Government, and ride-hailing companies operating in Lagos that app-based drivers will commence a mega shutdown strike from March 16th to March 18th, 2026. This decision comes after prolonged complaints and unresolved concerns regarding the harsh economic realities facing app-based transport workers across Lagos State. Drivers operating on platforms such as Uber, Bolt, inDrive, and Lagride continue to face rising operational costs, including the high price of fuel, vehicle maintenance, inflation, and daily living expenses. Unfortunately, the fare structures and policies of these companies have not been adjusted to reflect these economic realities. As a result, thousands of drivers now struggle to survive despite working extremely long hours on the platforms. The union therefore considers this three-day shutdown strike as a necessary step to demand urgent reforms within the app-based transport industry. Key Demands from App-Based Drivers The union is presenting the following ten critical demands to ride-hailing companies and relevant government authorities: 1.Immediate Fare Review Ride fares must be adjusted to reflect the current cost of fuel, vehicle maintenance, and inflation in Nigeria. 2.Reduction of Excessive Commission Ride-hailing companies must reduce their commission percentages to allow drivers earn sustainable income. 3.Minimum Trip Fare Guarantee A regulated minimum base fare should be introduced to prevent extremely low-paying trips that undermine drivers’ livelihood. 4.Driver Safety Protection Improved rider verification systems, functional emergency panic buttons, and rapid real-time response mechanisms must be implemented to protect drivers from security threats. 5.Insurance Coverage for Drivers Drivers should be provided with comprehensive accident, health, and life insurance coverage while active on ride-hailing platforms. 6.End to Unjust Deactivations No driver should be deactivated without a transparent investigation process and the opportunity for fair appeal. 7.Transparent Pricing System Drivers must have clear visibility into how fares are calculated and how commissions are deducted by the platforms. 8.Fuel Price Adjustment Mechanism Fare structures should include an automatic adjustment mechanism tied to fuel price fluctuations. 9.Recognition of Driver Unions Driver associations and unions must be formally recognized as legitimate stakeholders in discussions affecting the industry. 10.Driver Welfare Support Programs Ride-hailing companies should establish driver welfare initiatives including financial assistance, vehicle support programs, and emergency relief mechanisms. Strike Action Timeline The strike action will take place from Monday, March 16th to Wednesday, March 18th, 2026, during which drivers across Lagos State will log off from all ride-hailing platforms, including Uber, Bolt, inDrive, and Lagride. At the end of the three-day shutdown, the union will review the responses from the ride-hailing companies and the government. What happens next will determine whether the strike will be suspended or extended until further notice. Message to the Public We sincerely apologize to residents of Lagos State for any inconvenience this action may cause. However, the public must understand that app-based drivers are facing severe economic hardship despite providing an essential transportation service. This strike is not intended to punish commuters but to demand fair treatment, economic sustainability, and safety protections for the drivers who power the ride-hailing industry. The union remains open to dialogue and calls on the Lagos State Government, regulatory agencies, and the management of the ride-hailing companies to urgently engage with driver representatives to resolve these issues. SOLAR IS CHEAPER THAN NEPA Hear me out..... Take a NEPA Band A household with 24/7 power. Multiply their monthly bill by 12 months, then by 10 years. Now, compare that total to the cost of installing a solar system that can run the same house for 10 years without a single monthly bill. Yes, the upfront solar cost looks big. But spread over a decade, it often beats paying NEPA for uninterrupted electricity. Invest once, save every month.

States can start by partnering with investors to build mini power plants in specific high end local govts with the capacity to pay for steady power. Many industrial areas will jump on this option to save themselves from the huge cost of diesel.

You have two ACs, a freezer, TV, washing machine, iron, and a pumping machine, yet you installed a 5kVA inverter and now you’re claiming grid power is better than solar. Solar isn’t the problem, Oga. Your budget is.

@DanielWhalee Aside from that, he needs about 300 pieces of 550w inverter to charge it without depending on grid. And to think the inverter is just 15kw.

Not cheap in terms of initial setup cost but when that cost is spread over a decade that the system will serve you, the cost per day for uninterrupted power is cheaper than NEPA.
